I need to control my knife and fork more!! Since giving up smoking 4 years ago I put on 2 stone!!!!! All my own fault!
Yep less food and more excercise is the only way

I have always lifted weights, but I haven't been so good at the aerobics side lately, but I made a radical change to my diet, based on my Doctor asking me to try it and MAN has it made a difference... He put me on the "Wheat Belly" diet and I feel better than I have in 20 years.

White bread and sugary foods are one reason Americans are so unhealthy. I always eat a sprouted bread such as Ezekiel bread, take a good probiotic regularly (and many other supplements) and avoid all processed food. Of course, my weekly grocery bill at Whole Foods is at least $150

Weights do work btw, a lean body burns more fat at rest, but you have to combine that with a good diet. I've weighed 195 for the past 30 years, my weight is very stable. Still do dumbbell curls with 65s too

I'm not here to preach, butt, the power of colonics are most life transforming. You will loose a lot of weight that is stuck, intestinal "plaque" within your intestines and lower bowel. Conversely, drinking a mix of pysllium fibre and lots of water would also clean you out.. but not as thorough as the colonics

Disagree - a higher fiber diet and psyllium (Nature's Path makes a great cereal called "Smart Bran") works just fine. The type of bread you eat is also huge - see above. Colonics is not natural imo

I work out with weights 3 times a week and always mix it up between high and low reps, high and light weight and various cardio. I train for strength and just over all good health. being almost 50 i have to consider my joints.

Recently i tried a diet suggested by a BB and i shed 10 lbs in 2 weeks. Basically eliminating sugar, and anything that has processed flour etc. NO boxed cereals. Carbs were yams, sweet potatoes, oatmeal(NO SUGAR). Tons of green veggies like broccoli, asparagus, spinach and green beans. Colorful veggies too like red, yellow and green pepers. some veggies turn to sugar more than others so they are eliminated, such as corn, beats and similar. Lots of lean sirloin, chicken and fish and whole eggs(1 plus 8 eggwhites). counting the calories and using a scale helped. I too switched to sprouted grain bread but only a slice here and there. no pasta and no fruit. A tiny bit of sugars came from some sauces that you're allowed for flavor. After all, things need to taste edible. You really learn how to invest in good seasoning LOL

CHEAT DAY. Sunday i ate anything i wanted.

The diet also distributes the carbs, protein and such throughout the day and considered workout times, etc. to maximize calorie burn.

Initially you go through a sugar withdrawal and feel sleepy and tire quickly. After day 2 the body turns on it's own fat stores for energy and therein lies the crux of it.

After you lose the weight, you can add a few things back into your diet and stay stable at your preferred weight.

I echo the sentiment of using REAL FOOD. My gut doesn't like supplements. This does increase the grocery bill unfortunately.

p.s. i was never actually hungry, but did crave sweetness. STEVIA is an acceptable substitute.

Agreed colonics are not natural BUTT they are for extreme cases of impacted fecal matter... Not to be used all the time ... Perhaps once or twice a year and quickly followed up with a high concentration of acidophilus to replenish the good flora that the colonic would exhume...

And that's just it... The fitness world is so split on, do this, or do that. And it's just so crazy to try to say who is right or wrong, everyone has good results, so it's almost more of a pick your own route... BUT!!! I will be doing the cardio in the morning, that honestly sounds like a logical bit of information... So I will try my best to get that in

Here's the proof in my opinion - look at pictures of Dave Draper or Bill Pearl at about 70, they look like they're 50, then look at pictures of endurance runners/marathoners at 70 - they look like ..... Weight training simply works better as you age, helps keep fat off and also maintain good bone density. I agree extreme weight training/powerlifting is hard on your joints over 50, I'm talking moderate weight

Bill Pearl still gets up at 4 AM and squats with 225 for reps at 70+, most guys that age can barely get out of bed

It's all about the discipline.

My cousin tells me his friend has lost 9 stones in one year!!!!! No carbohydrates . Worth a try.
My youngest has grapefruit juice or a grapefruit followed by 2 boiled eggs for breakfast dinner and tea for one day. Then repeats for second day breakfast and lunch but for dinner on second day he has as much steak, celery and tomatoes/ or tinned tomatoes that he wants, oh no milk or sugar in tea or coffee. He usually drops 5-6 lbs in those 2 days!!

He is dropping water weight, not fat. If you are not eating carbs, thats bad in itself. Good carbs are needed for energy. I could go deeper, but I'm about to watch MotoGP. I was a mens physique competitor for a few years and was a top 50 athlete in 2012. I went from 242lbs in 2009 to 185lbs and ripped in 2012. Weight training, plyometrics, and a good meal plan will provide great results.

I have to disagree with the comment that "ALL supplements, powders etc are junk". It is hard to get the necessary amount of protein from whole food, especially with an active lifestyle.

I do agree that diet is the most important thing. You cant train your way out of a ...... diet. Do all the cardio and weights you want, if you follow that work with a supersized Big Mac value meal, you will never be cut.

Weight does matter on the bike. I'm 6'2", 215lbs and it is sometimes hard racing against guys that are 140lbs, especially on smaller bikes. On Liter bikes it isn't that big of a deal.

I could br smaller, I just don't want to. I've been training pretty much my whole life and was a personal trainer for a few years after college. I carry single digit bodyfat, but I'm still over 200lbs because I like to lift weights. I'm not willing to get real skinny just for the sake of racing.

How much you can bench matters on a bike right? :)

It's all about the law of entropy - it always wins, and the human body is prime example of how fast decay occurs.

I would say your Prince Alberts new screen saver now .

Genetics plays a large part in it too. For years I tried to put on lean weight at the gym. It worked for a while, put on about 2 stone, but then things like kids happened etc. so I had less time for the gym. Lo and behold my body went back to where it was comfortable at and the weight came off (muscle that is). But then I've always found I'm good at long distance running as was my father who used to compete in long distance and cross country when he was younger. Can't fight your genes!!

Ultimately it's simple, move more eat less!!

No, it isn't worth a try.

Your body needs carbs to utilize (synthesize) protein. Sure people will lose alot of weight on those no-carb diets, but most of the weight loss is muscle (muscle is more dense and therefore weighs more than fat).

People I know who have lost a bunch of weight on those diets have saggy chests, sloped shoulders and look like ..... Yes, according to the scale they are lighter, but not in a good way.

Not to mention things like dopamine and serotonin levels that are negatively impacted by 0 carb diets.

Muscle is heavier than fat but carrying more muscle does speed up the metabolism. Weightlifting is better for losing weight than pure cardio because pushing weights around does burn more calories than cardio exercises. Cardio is good to do with weightlifting but minimally. Squats are particularly good because it helps build strength where you need it most for hanging off.
