JeffD,

Do you know precise hospital Don was taken to and/or if he is still there? Would like to send him a card or something just to let him know he's not forgotten and maybe cheer him up.
I Imagine it would suck to be in hospital at Christmas time. Maybe a card would help.

Sorry to hear.
I was also involved in a small accident myself a few months ago and am still recovering.
Wishing him a fast and good recovery.

Charlie,

He is at Halifax Memorial Hospital in Daytona Beach, FL. I haven't gotten an update since I first posted so I will reach out and update soon.

Best wishes go to Don and his family for a speedy recovery and hope they can make the best of the Christmas season.

I've ridden with Don a couple of times. He is a great guy.

Speedy recovery to him and we will keep him in our thoughts.

To a fellow Floridian ...

... best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. Like Gunny, have been off net for awhile and very sorry to hear this.

Best wishes to him and his family. Never helps to have these things happen during the holidays. Sounds like he is a good guy so he must have some good support from friends and family.

Hopefully we can get an update and that Don is well on the mend....

This is horrible - best wishes to Don for a speedy recovery. Brain and spinal injuries scare the hell out of me.

Sorry for the late response, I haven't been active on here for the last couple months. Our mutual friend and Ducati Diavel owner Glen has been in touch with his sister to get updates. Here is the latest update I received on Saturday:

Per his sister... "Haven't posted anything in a while since it's been a bit of a roller coaster & I feel like no sooner do I post good- something bad happens
Right now everything is looking more positive - he's off the respirator, if everything goes well tonight they will change out his tracheotomy to one that allows him to speak yay!!!"

wow, hard to hear this! sending the best vibes out to Don for a quick recovery!!!

Hey JeffD

Any contact info? Maybe Glen can ask his sister for a contact that we can send him notes/messages letting him know we're thinking about him and hoping for speedy recovery. Just letting someone know that you're thinking about 'em and offer encouragement can sometimes greatly help with recovery.

Best wishes for sure; a month-plus in hospital on a resp is not a good time. However long it takes, I hope he makes a complete recovery from his head and spinal injuries. A cautionary tale for us all; roadside guard rails are very unforgiving, and all those median cable barriers that have become popular are little more than shredders for us motorcyclists. Sad to say, the roads are built for cars, and we just get to use them.

Nearly had a similar incident last Spring - was over in the mountains of NC with a friend when he misjudged a downhill hairpin on 281 north of Lake Toxaway and lowsided. We weren't going very quick (he was on a VStrom), and it would've been a minor scrape save for the guardrail just off the pavement. Luckily for him, he surfed under the armco headfirst, while his front wheel did what Don's head apparently did and nailed the post. Totaled his bike as a result and he broke his tibia when it caught the rail going under. If it had been the other way 'round, he might well not be riding his new bike. Or anything...

Let's be careful out there!

Help a brother out-$$

Got in a bad (non-motorcycle) accident myself a few years back. When your not working, money in the bank gets eaten up pretty quickly and bills pile up even faster.:(

What do you say we each chip in a few bucks to help Don through this rough time? Maybe postpone a bike mod for a while, and put it toward one of our own.

Stw, Phil, Zvez: Can you help direct (& secure) our efforts?

JeffD: Is there a Paypal account we can "gift" $money$ through?

rocdoc - that is a supremely good gesture on your part. I'll tell Glen about this thread so he can get Louise (Don's sister) to look at it and get her input. I agree with Charlie that at the very least Don can see we're sending positive vibes his way.

I'll report back when I hear the response.
