The MotoGP world was in a commotion when Francesco Bagnaia was rumored not to be using the new Desmosedici GP engine for the 2022 season.
Francesco Bagnaia reportedly disliked the new Ducati engine because it was too "aggressive".
Seeing the manufacturer prefer the old specs before the rollout is clearly not a common thing.
Moreover, this news comes from Ducati, which is known as the most creative manufacturer in terms of motorcycle development.
Disappointment can be seen in Davide Tardozzi's tone of voice when asked for clarification on this news by MotoGP pitlane journalist Simon Crafar.
"I don't know why people always talk about Ducati, keep blaming us," said Tardozzi, reported by BolaSport.com from MotoGP.com.
For your information, Ducati has also recently been dragged into controversy because of the suspension control system that tried to stop other manufacturers.
Tardozzi continued his sentence by clarifying that Bagnaia's decision to choose the old engine did not mean a failure for Ducati in development.
"Bagnaia didn't say the 2022 engine was wrong but that he wanted the 2021 engine," Tardozzi said.
"The news is empty because we gave Pecco a different specification."
"You have the opportunity to adjust the engine to lean towards the rider's riding style, and this engine leans more towards the Pecco and Jack Miller style."
Tardozzi reminded how other Ducati riders who got motorbikes persisted with the new machines.
Johann Zarco, Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing) and Luca Marini (Mooney VR46) are sticking with a brand new Ducati in MotoGP 2022.
The Bagnaia and Miller use the 2021 engine combined with new components. Hybrid engine, as they call it.
Quoted from The-Race, Bagnaia chose an early-stage version of the new engine that he tested during the season-ending test in Jerez, Spain, last November.
Tardozzi himself feels that what Ducati is doing in choosing a motorbike is commonplace in MotoGP.
"We know other manufacturers are bringing three engines with different specifications in Sepang," said Tardozzi.
"Why don't people go to them and ask which one Marc Marquez or the other engine racers have."
"We are satisfied with our choice of drivers, I think we gave all the drivers all the best possible."
"We will see how the season starts and at the end of the season we will know the result. This season will be difficult, there are many competitive riders and bikes."
