Was wondering if there is benefit to going down a tooth on the front when doing chain and sprockets ( the 1299 seems a bit difficult in traffic at 60 Km per hour not happy in 3rd gear and 4th to high…)
are there any benefits over say going up a few teeth in the rear?
does this sprocket change affect any of its software?
hoping you knowledgable guys can guide me

You can go down a tooth, but its better to go up a couple at the rear. Reducing the front sprocket increases chain tension plus it will increase wear due to less teeth, if you have 520 chain I would not consider it. The only upside is that it's easy and cheap. Any alteration in gearing will usually alter ride height as you change wheelbase so keep an eye on that as well

I went to 15/41 which required a longer chain and it made a huge positive difference, I would guess that the 15/39 stock ratio is for emissions and noise more than anything. The bike was smoother, easier to ride around town and there were no issues with electronics.

60 km in 3rd gear? I keep it in 1st, maybe 2nd but 3rd??? I actually love the stock gearing on the 1299. I think it is spot on! I have changed a lot on my bike but i would never touch the gearing.
Is your ecu still stock? If yes you might consider have it flashed and have the restrictions removed and fit a proper exhaust. First try that and if you are still not happy (which i doubt) you can change the sprockets.

On stock tune I had mine at 14/39 (one down in front on OEM rear) and it made the bike easier to ride around town but more difficult on the track as the bike was just too aggressive out of turns. The engine on these things is a monster anyway but once I was tuned appropriately (TuneBoy/201RWHP) the bike was sooooo much smoother & I went back to OEM 15/39 and it was easier to ride on track and around town.
