Hello,

I'm putting on a -1 front sprocket on my 1199s.

I have removed lower fairing
removed clutch slave
removed the shift rod
removed the sprocket cover
removed the Allen on the oem sprocket
Losen the chain and has plenty of slack

Now I can't get the sprocket off for the life of me!
It seems like a shield over thr chain that's on the front sprocket.
How do i remove that shield to get more room to take the chain off.

Also, should the bike be in neutral so i could spin the wheel to remove the chain?

you remove the chain by breaking the Masterlink or a link in the chain

It's to my understanding that I don't need to break the chain to change the front sprocket.

I never had to break the chain on my previous bikes to change the front sprocket

Just did mine day before yesterday. Can you post a pic of what you see ?

Mine was really easy to pull off. Something must be different.

So after you removed the 10mm Allen, you gave the chain some slack and you were able to just pull off the front sprocket with the chain still on the front sprocket?

@Signaljp

No, I was changing it all so I broke the master, actually used the chain to roll up against itself to hold it and popped the torque on the hex head, then I rolled the chain back off and took the sprocket off.

If it helps, once I broke the hex bolt loose, the sprocket came right off with no effort.

I put everything back together because I had a ride with some buddies. I'll try again this weekend and take some pics

I ran into the same issue going -1 on the stock 525 chain and ended up supporting the motor to unload rear suspension and remove {left swingarm carrier}+{shock rocker arm} to have full access to R&R front sprocket.

There's probably an easier way without breaking the chain but I wasn't able to slip the front sprocket out with the {front chain guard} and {left swingarm carrier} in place.

Wow, that's a lot of work just to swap out my front sprocket. I might as well just do a full 520 conversion. My dealer quoted me the same rate
