Fuel Consumption: which do you believe?

OK, here are some hard numbers based on extremely accurate scientifc instruments and measurement devices.

In short, I am getting 103 smiles per gallon. The smile-age is directly proportional to the degree of throttle opening. The more throttle, the more smiles.

I also have noticed that sometimes I get increased smile-age if there are females in the vicinity, especially at red lights. I have not adjusted the above number to compensate for these bonus smiles.

In conclusion, I expect smile-age to decrease over time to 1 big smile per ride.

I consider this the one true indicator of a bike's overall performance.

I think people missed the point of the original post. It is not about mpg. It is about the fuel light comming on really soon and if the bikes calculator is correct and trustworthy.

I think the low light comes on at about 3 gallons. For me I'm usually around 105 miles to that point So I'm probably getting atbout 33 mpg

My low light comes on with just over 1 gallon of gas remaining. Since I hate seeing the warning indicator I just find a gas station and fill it up. I have also noticed that when it first indicated low fuel level it will sometimes turn off after making a turn. It will pop back on after a few miles.

I do like how it changes the odometer window from overall or trip miles to a special low fuel miles counter starting at 0. Using this combined with the overall average and momentary fuel miles numbers make it really easy to know how far you can go before you'll need to push.

Except if for some reason the bike thinks there is enough fuel.
Then the light turns off.

And when it comes on again, it starts from zero, again.
So, it's useless.

Stick to total mileage and ignore the stupid fuel trip meter.

Again, it should be 'distance til empty'

Not totally. You still know you are low on fuel. Also, on mine at least, after the second time the light comes on, it stays on. So I just go from second indication. It's generally only a couple miles distance anyways so for me, at least, it is still useful.

Generally, when the light comes on, I just go get gas and don't worry about it. I'm too busy smiling anyways.
