Evening all, after looking for a cleaning fuel pump tutorial and not finding one...I took my pump apart anyways. The description is going to be brief as I'm doing this after a 12 hour shift of driving a semi truck and I'mdoing this from my cell.
I started noticing a loss of power in the upper rpm band and as the weeks went by it started getting worse. I have a full exhaust so I know it couldn't be a collapsed cat and I topped off the tank so I know it wasn't due to a low fuel level. Only thing left was the fuel filter.
After endless searches, there is no filter listed. There's "no way" to disassemble the pump. Basically ur 2 choices are buy a new pump assembly for God knows how much or roll the dice on a used one from ebay.
I am frugal (poor) and save up for the things I like or build if possible. I love doing my own maintenance
After pulling and draining the fuel tank, I carefully removed the fuel pump assembly held by 6 socket cap screws, I believe 4mm?
Then I took a bunch of baby harbor freight screw drivers and slowly began prying off the lower half, I did crack one tab but honestly not worried
Carefully pryed the mesh filter and o rings (4) and tossed the base and filter into an ultrasonic bath for 20 min
Then I rinsed and hit the mesh filter with a steamer from a distance and the base until I saw no more sediment. Yes I also blew steam thru the "tubes" in the base plate.
I'm going to reassemble Saturday but I don't see a reason I can't hit redline anymore. I'll add to this if I run into anymore problems
If anyone can find a better replacement filter, please comment. I don't know many times I'll be able to clean that mesh filter. It wasn't exactly designed for that
