Parts could be a ..... with the FZR. I mini track a YSR50 of about the same vintage and its getting tougher to find what I want.
There's not enough cash in the budget for a slightly older Honda, Yamaha, or Suzuki 600? They are SOOO much fun on the track!
Another cheaper option is to supermoto a slightly older 450 mx bike.

i am still on the fence about signing up with WERA. i don't want to crash my 1199, but OTOH, racing this thing would be pure fun.
i think the sv650 are in a pretty sweet market, parts and tuning available...
the ninja 250 class is said to be cheap and the most fun of all...
the FZR400 would be a lot of fun to ride, i could get it for 1150 track ready. parts, well you're right...

Yeah that may be tough. Id look for 1st Gen models for that price Phil.

I had a racing buddy with a FZ400, and he had a great time with it. I personally started (and won numerous championships) on a Ninja 250R, so either way, you will have a great time, and have picked a bike that will teach you to be a good competent racer. Too many new racers start out on bikes way over their heads. A 250 or 400 teaches you about the importance of momentum, good shifting, judicious use of brakes, and many other skills you can use in the faster classes later on. Helped me qualify for a factory TZ250 after a few years. Good decision either bike.

Phil, what organization does the ninja 250 class? It does sound cheap and fun. How much do those bikes weigh?
