Gas boiling in my tank

Hi ,

I just installed a new engine in my 899 was quit a process .

At first start up I let it run to 20 mins , started up fine no issues . After I shut it off I could hear slight boiling and narrowed it down to my gas tank.

The bike after about 10 mins of idle hits 102F seem normal. , my question is, the boiling normal because Bike is just sitting at idle. heat is rising heating up tank? .

I have checked all my vacuum lines and all appear to be correct , I can't figure this out and have never noticed this issues before when I would idle bike in garage when I'd work on it .


I know I missed something just can't figure this out .

Any suggestions?

I've had boiling after hard riding. i also had some extreme boiling and my gas cap shot off after my exhaust pipe cracked right at the cylinder head (vertical) and was cooking the bottom of the tank.
 
I wonder if the boiling is because bike is sitting ?

just curious how common this is. i know the rear of fuel tank sits just inches above vert. head but would take lots of heat to boil. I had a heat gun to my tank to warm up for installing stompgrips per instructions and barely would heat up due to liquid in tank.

I guess like trying to solder copper pipes filled with water.

Any way since I was installing engine covers with heatshields I decided to insulate bottom of tank since was already there just in case lol.

Hey. Thanks for the great idea - I ended figuring it out .
I Barley had any gas in my tank and after it running idle was enough heat to boil. Since then I have filled my tank and no issues what so ever .

Note to self don't let tank get below 3 lites

Looks like you just added some unnecessary weight and wasted some good foil. :)
 
I did the same thing and wrapped the bottom of my tank, seat with DEI gold wrap when installing my Motoholders subframe.
