Afternoon all,

I have a problem that is becoming more frequent and before I take it to the dealer I just thought I would ask on here (as I couldn't find anything on this in the search) and see if it is a problem I could sort myself.

The other day I was out and noticed that when I put the bike into neutral the dash didn't know what gear it should be in and flickered quickly between N & 1. The green N light didn't illuminate. When it has happened before I have always been sat on the bike, for example, at a set of traffic lights but yesterday while it was happening I stopped at the side of the road, left the bike running and got off. The rev's then dropped off and the bike cut out. I restarted the bike while it was still on the side stand, it fired up no probs but then the rev's died off again and it cut out. If I have the bike upright the rev's don't drop off. The bike functions normally apart from this. The fault only happens if I've been out for an hour or so. Now I have been very lucky by all accounts with this bike and so far this has been the only real fault I've had.

If anyone can shed some light on this for me it will be greatly appreciated, if not then it looks like I will be off to the dealer.

Cheers :)

I had a similar problem as well.

From what my dealer tells me this is a problem that Ducati is well aware of--they have a procedure for fixing it that took care of mine--under warranty of course.

The gear position sensor just need to be reset, your dealer can take care of it no problem.

i had the same issue - it was fixed....i was told it was the "shift switch" (whatever that is, i haven't a clue)(where it is, or what part number for it - sorry) - after being cleared up for quite a while, the problem has come back :(

I was told that if the reset did not take care of the problem with the gear position sensor that a fix would involve replacing some parts.

Mine developed the exact same problem a long time ago.
I rectified the issue simply by ensuring that it was parked in 1st gear to cool down overnight.

Maybe that will help you overcome it, if your having problems getting a fix at the dealer.

had the same problem, needed a gear sensor reset, good for while, now the problem is back again

Thanks for all the comments everyone, looks like i'm off to the dealer then. The gear position sensor adjustment makes sense to me however the revs dropping off does not. I will pass it to the dealer and make it his problem, just thought i'd try and get a quick fix from the abundance of knowledge on here. Once again, thanks everyone for your input and happy riding where ever you are in the world :D

i have aftermarket rearsets on, dealer suggests that may be the cause of the problem.

Dude... you missed out on a golden opportunity to say that this issue was fixed by the latest update! :p

Ask them to explain "HOW?" The source of the problem, like so many others have said before is the sensor itself. Either your dealer is unaware of this and is fairly incompetent or they're trying to get you to pay for it. Either way, I'd find a different dealer.

Agreed....

I had the same problem with the gear indicator. It blinks between N - 1 when your bike is a neutral. When your drop the stand down and let go the clutch(Neutral gearing),the engine cuts off. At first the tech at Ducati Malaysia said it has something to do with the engine heat so they fit recall add on harness to resolve the left handle bar numbness and the Blinking issue. It did resolve blinking problem momentarily till reappear again. Then we change the gear sensor and once we get the bike temp up 90'c the problem reappear again(The gear blinking issue only appear when the bike temp is at 90'c and above). The tech than tried to reset the gear "teach-in " and redo the gear "teach-in" and it resolved the blinking issue. I haven't had a issue with gear indicator till date. Only issues i have right now is the fogging in the dash,I had my dash replace 3 times...

Get used to the dash fogging.
It happens at the strangest of times, but mostly in the morning after a cold night.
It could almost be described as a feature of the model:eek:

Mine fogs as soon as I've ridden a couple of kms, then it clears as it starts to warm up since this winter weather has started to set in.

N and 1 flickering

I saw this same thing the other day on a 70mile trip in 97F ambient. Coolant temps were hovering over 204F most of the time. I knew it was hot as heck, sipping water from my CambelBak while splitting the L.A. traffic to keep airflow. By the time I came to a series of stops and in my garage, it exhibited the N and 1 toggling, but the bike was clearly in neutral and gave no running issues, just the display. So, riding in the high heat may cause this issue to crop up, will the learn procedure described below correct this condition while not creating another one during lower temp riding? Thanks
