Gear Sensor Error

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I had the samething happen to my 13 1199S ABS. The simple fix is to shut the bike down, turn off the ingnition key and manually go from 1st-6th gear then back to neautral. After you've done that start the bike back up and the code will clear itself and everything works as it should.

Update: The gear sensor error kept coming on so long story short it was replaced and now it's fixed. Bad gear sensor was the final verdit.

I have an issue with the gear display not able to show neutral. So in order to start the bike, i have take the bike off the kick stands and hold the clutch. Scheduled an appointment with the dealer after Thanksgiving, see how that goes.

Had my first break down today! Looks like I am not one of the lucky ones after all :(

Left home to fill up at the petrol station and after I left the station the engine management light came on - I was like WTF! Shortly after that it went away and I kept thinking to my self what was that all about.. Anyways, I decided to go back home, I had this feeling that this bike will leave me stranded and I did not fancy that at all and on my way back I noticed that it was not selecting gears properly and it stalled on me at the traffic light. I looked at the dash and the indicator kept flicking between first and neutral with out me doing anything - a rather embarassing scene while others are behind me waiting to move.

I tried the the reset trick mentioned above which kind of worked but 5 minutes after I got close to home it did it again. I stopped on the side of the road and tried flicking through gears and see what happens and with in a few seconds, the indication went blank and gave me no numbers. I pushed the bike home and called the Ducati Assistance people for the first time! Pretty impressed when they turned up in 1 hour and took the bike away to the dealers to see whats wrong with it.

I guess they will fix it under warranty, not sure how long I will have to wait to get it back.

Could also be short in BBS wire harness under the seat can cause problem.
I had a fan problem and this was the cause as the harness is real close to the frame and there is a sharp part on the frame that rubs the wire harness.

A reset will work for a while until the wire shorts out again and then the problem comes back. If dealer does not find anything have him check the harness for the BBS unit.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will let them know if they did not find anything.

I have found a few other odd things that keeps happening but that is off topic - I will still mention it anyway in case some one else have noticed it as well..

1 - The left indicator at times blinks very quickly as if it is in fast forward mode! And most of the time it is fine, I do not know why it does that.

2 - This one gets me all the time, although I am in 'Sports' mode I some times feel like it is running in 'Wet' mode and the bike feels under-powered and on most days it is absoultely fine and I can feel the power.

Anyone else have noticed the above?
