GoPro H3 Disappointment!

Trauma :But to run it power while in the protective case you have to modify it dont you? or keep it out of the case completely (which is risky to me).

Everyone else: Look im sure its a great cam for some who just dont mind spending a ton of extra $$ to make it work the way it should but come on, for $400 camera shouldnt you demand higher batter life than 30-45 minutes? And it should piss people off they have to spend an additional $50 to make up for the battery life. Then to get nikel and dimed for everything else and the WIFI App blows due to the lag, like i said its just not for me and the 40%+ average poor ratings online dont make me feel alone.

They make a case (GoPro Frame Mount | The smallest, lightest way to mount your HERO3) that exposes the whole thing, so pretty much just the camera! Perfect for nice weather, which 98% of my Pani rides are. If you keep wireless off, it last a bit longer. I need the 24p, so that kinda cinched it for me.

I use a Sony Cybershot TX55 on a RAM suction mount. Lot's of settings, big touchscreen, anti-vibration, multiple photo / movie options. Batteries are cheap. Sitting on the tank, behind the fairings, no issue with wind noise. They now make a TX20 which is water resistant and I'm upgrading to that and giving my wife the TX55. GoPro can eat .... & die. It didn't like the vibration. The TX55 worked sweet. :)

Just a photo to follow up on my comment. The camera never interfered with my riding.

I still have the Gen1 GoPro, it is whatever. I don't care for it much and I am glad that I didn't buy the Gen3. I will be looking into Contour next.

My GoPro battery stopped taking a charge, so they are sending me a new one. When I asked about the battery time, they said to expect 1-1.5 hours with the new one I am getting. I also ordered the "Frame", which allows you to wire it while it is mounted, if you like. That way it will last pretty much forever.

I attached the battery pac and wire it in with the open cover. Now running out of memory is the issue.

Definitely needs firmware update...

I've purchased the Wasabi Power batteries for my gopro hero 2 and hero 3 and have had very good luck with them so far. Better runtime than the factory battery.

I'm getting about 1.5 hours of recording time on the video before the battery goes flat. I got the 2 pack + charger at amazon so I just swap and go.

i have the gopro 3 silver and have had no problems that couldn't be fixed. i bought the Sandisk ultra 64gb card and it works flawlessly. and the battery surprised me. the canyon ride near me is about an hour and 40 minutes total thru and back and the battery still had plenty of juice afterwards. my settings are 1080 res, 30 fps at wide angle. i have used the gopro app on my phone to make sure the angle is good after mounting the cam. then i make sure to shut off wifi and press record when the riding starts. perhaps there were some bad batteries sent out, who knows. as for the vibration its all about placement. my first run i placed the cam on the side fairing just in front of my knee with the suction cup mount. i didnt realize that this spot had alot of vibration until i took a peak at the video. so afterward i remounted the cam on the same fairing but just alittle lower and more toward the front of the bike. i noticed that the fairing vibrated alot less there. video came out really nice. i have yet to mount it on the front fairing, but i think it will be a good spot as well. i have also mounted the cam on the underside of the tail fairing. worked pretty well too.

I think it's a decent little camera, though not perfect by any means, if mounted well, its pretty good. Lots of recording options, versatile, does 60fps at 1080p even does 24p at 2k. Still suffers from rolling shutter with jittery movement, but thats just where we're at technology wise, any DSLR will do the same.
Here's a recording of a track day I did at Auto Club Speedway, its got some shake, but then again we are riding L-Twins.
Running at 60fps and without youtube's compression it looks better, still looks pretty good I think (sans the riding).

Auto club speedway on 1199 04/13 - YouTube

2nd track day, level 2, DTC at 3 I think, still taking it easy. I think there where 10 spills that day, close to record the organizers said, was a little uneasy.

I use the Contour Roam. I like the aerodynamic shape of this better than the brick design of the GoPros....but GoPros seem to have a bit more recording options and sound quality is better than my contour roam. But photo quality wise they seem to be the same.

I have a GoPro 2 and 3....and yea the battery kinda sucks on both especially the 3 with the WiFi going but the only thing i really use that for is to set up the camera with my phone before going riding then i turn it off.

I love the GoPros....especially out at the lake when wakeboarding....you never have to worry about them...and the video is amazing especially with the 720p 60fps setting for super smooth slo-mo...

as far as the battery life goes, I got 2 extra batteries that hold more charge than the one the 3 comes with and a charger for them for 20 bucks in amazon....not really a steep price to pay.

I use the gopro for a lot more than just riding so the gopro is the best for every activity in my book

for reference i played around with a contourHD and didnt like how it mounted...gopro is much more flexible....

You will have to try Carlyle, it's shallow so it gets lots of waves in the winds out there, a great sailing lake.

its pretty much the only lake I go to....I can be on the water in 1 hour....plus its so shallow if you drop the camera you can dive and find it....lol
I dont have the patience for sailing though....

j/k i tether the crap out of them....

which that is a fault of the gopro....they make that floaty backdoor thing that only will float the camera, put a mount on there and its questionable...the suction cup mount, forget it, its going down....i stuck much better foam on it. but ive never had one fall off....

here's a question, does anyone put the sticky mounts on their bike?
I was thinking of putting some 3M clear wrap down and then putting the sticky mounts that way its not on the paint...
