just curious as i for one use gp shift on all my bikes. what do you prefer.

I currently and have always used standard. I think I want to switch to GP for next season as doing track days I can see where the GP shifting could be an advantage shifting coming out of corners. For street I see no advantage either way.

GP for me. Oddest thing when I have to ride a standard shift now, as long as I'm on a track and going full speed I wont mess up. Just cruising along in the pit area at slow speed I'll forget which is which though.

GP shift on the track for sure. Is just makes more sense on the track. Just purchased the 1199S Panigale and have not converted it yet.

gp is just more comfortable for me. im not fast enough where it matters on the track but gp i dont have to think about anything. when i was little it didnt make sense to me why you have to lift up down is just easier. not a big deal i was just curious what people prefer.

I'm with Le Smart. It became immediately apparent my first track day that GP shifting would be a necessity. And like Shakazulu, when the engine is boiling I've never made a mistake. But once or twice I have grabbed the wrong gear while putting around.

The great thing about the 2014/13/12s is if you are hauling ass you won't be using the clutch....making a downshift instead of an upshift an impossibility (quick shifter will only shift up a gear). The 2015s....well, who the .... knows!

Another thing to consider is who services your bike. I'd be very apprehensive about taking a GP shift Panigale to a 3rd party mechanic who hasn't ridden very many--if any--Panigales and decides to take it for an 'Italian tune up' and blows the motor. I don't care how good a rider you are, swapping back and forth between standard and GP requires concentration.

Many club racing orgs actually require a sticker on the triple or tank saying whether it's GP or standard shift now. In case you crash and they are moving your bike without you.

Standard never used gp. Will on the track next year though maybe.

Converted to GP 2 years ago and will never go back!

Just like Anti Hero stated, the 1199 is the perfect bike to learn, you'll never accidentally downshift. I got it wrong a few times when taking off on traffic lights and stuff, nothing major.

For those of you who have to deal with an off season, I suggest you start in the spring with the new pattern, your mind will have partially reset over winter.

Been riding with standard pattern all my life, I'm scared to attempt to switch for fear of screwing up and wrecking her... I'm on the street 100%..

Downshifting seems easier for me with a standard shift. Upshifting is a non issue. Screwing up downshifting is going to be a more likely way to eat pavement IME.

I thought the idea of GP shift is just to be able to up shift exiting turns leaned over. Obviously, it could be tough getting your foot under the shifter for a normal shift.

I haven't been anywhere that I've experienced that problem yet, so I'll just ride it with the stock shift pattern for now.

I ride aggressively and have big feet, so GP shift was an obvious choice for me early on in my motorcycling "career". I can't imagine riding any other way, and it strikes me as odd that anyone would want to deal with the potential of toe drag, or having to reposition feet at the last minute instead of when braking.

GP shift is the way to go. I have a size 12 foot and trying to get my foot under the shifter while leaned over to the left coming out of a corner??? Aint happening. Now, I can just hit the shifter and stay on the POWER.

Sub poll:
For GP Shift what Rearsets you guys using. I originally went with Gilles, which were all ...... up (even seized on me), then Gilles (which also had unacceptable engineering flaws like a bolt embedding itself in the swingarm). Finally just went with DP. Other than losing my shift lever the other day (check those bolts for rattling even if they are loctited), the DPs are worth the extra $$$.

Standard SL rearsets, with DP GP shiftrod and DP footpegs.

OEM rearsets. I'm using the RapidBike QS which is a fraction of the cost of the DP module. And the QS is adjustable....

For many years as a kid growing up, well into my 20's I rode British bikes with the shifter on the right, one up 3 down, it took a long time to learn how to shift backwards with the wrong foot, if I went back to a "GP" shift I would want go back to right foot shifting.
