I think we all go through this after a crash (or near crash). All the gear all the time, s**t happens.
Had a REALLY Bad Day Yesterday on my New V4!

Here's what I hit, two steel pieces formed out of 1/4" plate steel and joined by heavy nylon webbing, about 5-6 lbs total, really nasty, could have easily ended a lot worse than it did though. Ducati dealer is saying as much as $4000 to repair, oil pan is $400, new Pirelli Super Corsa is around $350, new pan gasket, oil and filter and exhaust gaskets, miscellaneous hardware, as they said the exhaust has to be dropped to get the oil pan off. So about $1000 in parts and $3000 labor, I was expecting around $2000 total.
Sure wish I had that on there.....
Damn man that sucks! Could have been worse!

Do it urself and save a lot of $. Easy repair. Might take a day to do it on ur own time but worth saving 3k in labor. I would get new tire as it can absorb the oil if not quickly degreased. Don’t pay the stealer a dollar. Just do it urself if ur capable. Probably a moderate level repair. 3k in labor because they have ur bike in possession and they know they r gunna 90% chance do the repair so they will hike the labor charge to make $
4000K it is just insane, I would do it myself. Look for the service manual, plenty of places where to get it, go through it and start to build a BOM with the aid of the parts catalog, you can find it on the Ducati Omaha website.

It is an easy job, take pictures as you go and take your time. The oil pan gasket is RTV. I suggest you to buy a torque wrench for the 1 time use oil pan bolts, they are aluminum or even, replace with proti titanium, the torque wrench should be starting at 3Nm, the torque is 3.5Nm plus 90 degrees angle, torque check is 5.5-10 Nm. You will find those info on the service manual. Also, could be the opportunity to know in deep your motorcycle. And yes, replace the tire.
If I were living close to you I would be more than happy to guide you through the process.
Obviously, if you don't have the tools and a rear stand could be pricey but always less than 3k to the dealer.

Hold on a second, I don't see anything about dropping the entire exhuast system, SM says to drain oil (done...lol) remove fairings and remove silencer cover and oil line but nothing about removing the entire exhaust system to get the sump off. Am I missing something here, anyone that's removed the oil sump from a V4 please feel free to respond?

oh man! I'm glad you were able to stay right side up my friend! I had a very similar experience back in September of 2022 (my bike was only 400 miles old at the time). Mine was with a piece of firewood/log/piece of branch that likely fell from someones trailer right in the middle of a corner. Unfortunately, I wasn't as lucky as you - ended up overshooting the corner (lost traction in the front). Initially, I kept it upright, until the bike got stuck in the mud and launched me into a thick oak fence. Bike was fine... I had a shattered femur though.

Similar situation with me once in Austin. I trailer my bike to Houston now for any work I can’t do myself.
They are trying to take advantage of you man.

Thanks, I count myself very fortunate, I did an absolute full lock swapper in the right hand corner, crossed the center line into oncoming traffic lane and almost hit the guardrail on the opposite side of the road, I could easily have had a totalled bike and be dead....or worse! I'm guessing Ducati TC kicked in and saved my bacon or maybe my guardian angel was working overtime, don't know.
Totally agree Jag, going to have a conversation with the Service Writer when they open tomorrow morning and will load the bike and trailer it home if they can't be reasonable. I talked to several other Ducati owners and this shop is known for this kind of stuff. I sat down and priced out the parts at Ducati Omaha and allowing 6 hours labor @ $160 per hour which is pretty generous, came up with under $2000 total. $4000 is insane!

dealer is deff over charging you for the work that needs to be done , i do however think the front headers would have to be removed to drop the pan efficiently. i could be wrong but just seeing the underside of the bike and the pickup tube inside the sump that's what it looks like. Still 4k is WAY too much for this service.
