Hi All

Got my SFV4S about 3 weeks ago. Brand new with 5 K’s on the clock MY21. When I picked it up, the salesperson went to start it and took about a minute to start and stay on. Its like it wanted to start but then would turn off again like not enough revs to keep it going. I also noticed when you go to accelerate, it’s like it wants to stall But if you turn the throttle a little more, it would rev up enough so you can take off.
Today I had a chance to take the bike out again and it was the same, really hard to start and once it was started and warmed up, it was like the bike would stall again as I give it a little gas ( approx 5 minutes turn on the clock ).
Anyone else had this problem. The bike is totally stock except for fender eliminator and rad guards. I will call the dealer tomorrow but don’t want any ........ excuses.

Hi Chill,

I had the same problem on my 2020 (first one delivered in AU back in June). I was using 98 octane fuel and changing to 95 on the dealers suggestion seems to have resolved it. (Temperature “latch” or something like that).

It only happened when engine was cold and at the time was simply fixed by turning the ignition off then on again.

Be interesting to hear what your Dealer says...

it looks strange, maybe a problem with fuel, maybe it's not high-quality fuel or a problem with fuel filters, if you can better disassemble everything and look, I think the problem is on the surface, but for now, you can play here Syndicate Casino

Thanks for the reply’s

it still has the first tank of fuel that the dealer put in it. Only 50 Klm on the bike. Bike is only 3 weeks old and no chance to ride it. Dealer has pick the bike up yesterday so will keep you informed

Having the same issue, new bike < 300Kms. I used Shell 98 so will try 95 next time. After first start it never misses a beat and starts first time.

I have now put 2 tanks of 95 in the bike. Will wait and see what happens. im still having issues with the throttle as for the first 5 minutes on the clock of turning the throttle, it feels like it wants to stall. It’s an absolute .... trying to take off. Happens when the bike is hot

For those that don’t know this is an emission related issue and it only gets worse if you throw an exhaust on the bike. With the stock tune and arrow system i would have to give the bike throttle like it was carbureted to just start the bike. What the bike is doing is running very lean to try and get the cat up to temp. This is known as light off, it also shows in some ways how behind motorcycle engines are compared to more updated car engines. A good example to talk about is the coyote in the mustang, it has a 50 degree sweep for VCT, but this lead to a lot of cold start issue “idle surge, lots of idle problems that evening tuning wouldn’t solve”. So Ford in the gen 2 engine “15-17 MY” added a mid lock phaser that would lock the cams at 25 degrees on cold starts this fixed the issue and helped out with light off emissions. The point is till we see full wideband support on these bikes and more advance VCT tech. The cold start issues won’t go away

I went through similar issues with my 21 V2. Was in and out of the dealership several times to try and resolve it. Ultimately removing the charcoal canister and only using particular brands of gas (76, Shell) seems to have cleared it up. I always use 92 octane but as I have learned, not all brands are equal. The Ducati master technician also said to try using the non ethanol 89 but I haven't had any issues and was reluctant to use it unless she starts acting up again.

Shell is like nitrous to your valves plugs and ring lands

Keeps em good n clean : )

Ever wonder why aluminum produces green flames when it’s burning?

Interesting... I have a similar issue... Bike starts up OK but after a min. or so of warming up the rpm drops a bit. It then starts to idle rough and when you touch the throttle it wants to die unless you blip it a bit. I tried octane boosters - it was even worse. Seems like the idle map is way too lean??

Having the exact same issue, went and tested another bike and it was the same. Dealer told me there is a software fix coming out but I’m thinking they just told me that to get me out of there face Lol

Occasionally get a starting issue but following advise here I turn off (30 secs) and back on and that seems to clear it. Once started never misses.

how does that look when your in front of Starbucks and your mates $2000 jap bike starts up straight away . Don’t get me wrong, I love the bike and getting used to it but don’t think a bike of this caliber should run like that.

Only first thing in the garage if I haven't ridden for a week or so, once I'm out it always starts.
