I'm 35yo. Had many bikes. now the proud owner of my dream bike, the 1199 S. And I love everything about it, Except one thing. It kills my right wrist. Has anyone tried Heligrips? Or any other solution?
It's so bad I'm considering trading or selling her only after two months of ownership. The problem is, I like long rides. And my wrist hurts after twenty minutes.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Haven't tried Heligrips, but I do have the ProGrip 717 grips as do several others.

Had many bikes? Mostly sportbikes? We must assume that you are using your legs to grip the sides of the tank and not putting all your weight on your arms...

It sounds like your riding technique needs some work as there should be little to no weight on your wrists. Try riding more with your legs/ciore and reducing the weight you have on your wrists

Thank you all for the feedback. Yes, I've had many bikes. This is the first to hurt my wrist. I know how to ride (on other bikes lol) with my legs/knees supporting as much weight as possible. I'll admit, I'm sure part of the problem is my legs don't reach the tank so much. And that's where my tank grips are obviously lol. So, these are my solutions I will try before I make any drastic change like getting something different.
I've been told to try these things.
-New heavier bar ends to take away the vibration.
-New grips like either heligrips or the ones you mentioned up top, (proGrip 717?) Something that's adjustable would be nice.
-New rear sets to get my knees up a little more where they should be.

To play devils advocate, i do notice it more when my wife is on the back. But she's a great pack and never had problems with her before. I know this bike isn't made for leisurely sunday morning rides, but like to do it once in awhile. Just trying to find a happy medium, and hoping I can do it with this bike. Worse case scenario, I get something else. But I think i'll get something to work.

I looked these up and have one question. Do they have open ends? To put bar end on? The reviews said they were closed ends, so could not accommodate bar ends. I was thinking of getting some heavy bar ends to help with vibration.

It does look like they have a 719 that has open ends, not sure if that's the only difference though.

Just ride it often and muscle memory will take care of you.
I have been riding mine 400 miles+ a day to annual events and I'm no spring chicken anymore :D

The ones I purchased from my dealer had open ends.

I cant comment on the 719's but I know from personal experience the 724's have open ends as I have them on my bike.

I went for an hour long ride the other day and noticed my right wrist was getting sore but I was trying to keep my thighs from getting burnt so wasn't gripping the tank like usual.

Get a tuneboy with electronic cruise control. That way on longer rides you can get your right hand off the grip to shake it out a bit.

get a different bike for 2 up, you'll both be happier

on your own, gripping the tank more might help...if you find you're putting pressure on your wrist, as noted in another post, your riding posture needs to change a little - simple here and there (butt cheek, versus foot pegs, together with gripping the bars, ideally should be no pressure with just the right balance) full day rides however may require you to stop and pause for a rest to keep everything happy

just my .02 :)

I second this, it is well worth the investment and makes a world of difference on longer rides.

I completely agree with Zaster, having been off bikes for about three years, I was having a similar problem, I've been riding every weekend since I got the bike (6 months) and it has improved, along with the way I ride the bike, but noticeably better on the hands. My spring chicken days are also a distant memory, looking more like an autumn turkey these days.

Cheers

I looked at this and although it looks awesome, it honestly looks beyond my expertise/instruction level lol. I'll have to ask my dealer if they can install it.

Although I've just received mine and have yet to install it I believe it is as simple as plugging it into the receptacle under your seat with your switches in a certain position. I'll shoot you a PM when I get around to it.
