Has it really come to this?

Stuff like this in the MC world always gets sorted out in the 11th hour. It'll be on but nobody will know, including people who'd want to buy tix.

I started riding in 2004 and my DVR was overwhelmed by the number of races I got to record on Daytona weekend back then - 600SS, Formula Ultra (I miss that!), 1000 SStk, and Superbike, plus the 200. I used to throw big BBQs for the 200 weekend as it was the big start to the racing season, but that's long-gone.

DMG has damaged the brand beyond repair after the cluster that was Laguna w/ rolling starts (Matt Mladin almost plowed an ambulance on a hot track at 180+). AMA has been on life-support ever since then. Would love to see it turned around but not holding my breath.

Carney Huckster car guys shouldn't get involved in motorcycle road racing. The WWF format doesn't work, like it does for Super Cross.
I raced Daytona in 1980 Superbike, we had close to 60 bikes take the green in 2 waves, the stands and infield were filled with people the racing was close and exciting. That was when a regular guy could go buy a Suzuki/Kawasaki/Honda for almost nothing spend 5000.00 and elbow grease and have something competitive.
Fast forward to present time, engineers, and corporate entities have driven cost through the roof, reducing the bike counts to nothing with only 1 or 2 riders capable of winning, speeds have been driven up so high, that the track is dangerous to race on, and it is just plain boring to watch. It's no wonder this is happening.

Not surprised actually as AMA Superbike Racing has been dead for many years. Pretty much when DMG took over. Actual racing hasn't been bad, but grids are smaller and crowds pretty much non-existent. You can't grow a sport if you never promote it....just sayin. ...
