It never ceases to amaze me how many other bikers want to tell you that what your are doing or want to do with your bike is wrong and that you should have gotten a different bike...
It has long been my experience that people (for the most part, but definitely not ALL people) purchase the cage (car or truck) that they NEED... But when it comes to a motorcycle purchase, you purchase what you want or desire.
There is far more passion and desire that goes into a motorcycle purchase than a car or truck purchase.
Lets face it. Nobody NEEDS a motorcycle, we want or desire one. You can buy a cheep old Honda Accord to get you to and from places for under $1500 easily.
You can also buy a cheap old motorcycle for under a grand that will get you where you want to go.
A Ducati purchase is a purchase of passion and desire.
So I always wonder why some people feel it necessary to tell others that some mod or change that they want to do is "wrong" or "ugly" or even "stupid"....
When I post a question on a technical forum, I am usually NOT looking for someone to tell me if it is right or wrong, I am usually looking to see if someone else has done it and what the results were. Since my new 14 is the 3rd year of the Pani, I am pretty sure that there is someone else out there who has tried what I am considering.
That is the point of the technical section of forums. To share technical information. Not someone saying that they all do this or that and that cannot happen.
These are not robot built, mass produced Japanese machines. These are hand-built Italian works of art. A human being did most of the work to assemble your bike and mine. People don't always to things the same way, so there will be slight variations from bike to bike.
Look back at some of the older posts from 2012 and 2013 at all of the horrendous problems some people had with their Pani's. All of the display issues, melted fairings, fork seal failures, oil leaks, etc...
My 14 has had NONE of the above problems.
What is my point? When someone asks a technical question, answer the question. If you have not tried or done what the poster is asking about, then don't answer. If you have, your opinion is welcome. If not, and you are about to tell the poster he/she got the wrong bike or that is stupid or you need to learn to ride your bike... GFY Your opinion is neither wanted nor needed....
Ok, rant over.
