Well. Imho from YEARS of using Engine Ice in every water cooled bike I owned, it did make a difference in engine operating temps as seen on the dash. Now this may be merely coincidence or even just an optical illusion but it seemed to work very well for me, hence reason I had it poured in long ago when they had my radiator off for the Cox products.
Ploy or not it did work for me and all those I used to race with. However, it seems as if this product is now banned from club level racing due to its components. Since the Tri won't be doing any competitive track days I'm using it as I did in at least 4-5 other bikes.
**sorry- didnt mean to offrail the "heat shield" thread. Keeping mine as is with CF guard and stock engine visual.
Hers is .02 more of my 2 cents worth
-- i'm not knocking your experience with it, just sharing mine...i flushed the stock anti-freeze out, engine ice in....and noticed no difference on the temp gauge(all other things being equal) - i called the company itself, and spoke with (name withheld due to forgetfulness) who at the time only said that the main difference between his product and maxima, prestone ect was that it was environmentally friendlier and that i might experience a slight reduction in temps, but maxima and prestone are highly regarded products that do the job very well
-- their web site now reads a 10 to 20 degree swing in temp can happen...but "many outside factors take a role in this" referring to altitude, temperature and more....
-- i just continued on using prestone, or maxima....whatever the shop seemed to have at the time
-- here is an interesting tid-bit that i came across recently from Motul....a product that in fact states outright, it is an additive that will reduce temps up to 30 degrees: Can be mixed with most coolants monoethyleneglycol based - but in itself it is not an antifreeze
PERFORMANCES
Engines run cooler by 15°C (30°F) : Improves thermal exchange and engine cooling system efficiency.
MoCool
Top engine cooling additive
Reduce engine temperature by 15°C (30°F)
Outstanding thermal exchange
Concentrated cooling fluid
TYPE OF USE
Any cooling system of bikes, cars, ATVs… when overheating is observed or in racing conditions to
decrease engine operating temperature.
ATTENTION :
- Some racing regulation do not allow anything else than pure water, if any doubt, check with race
official organisation before using MoCool. Motul company cannot be involved in case of race
disqualification while using MoCool inappropriately.
- MoCool does not provide any antifreeze protection.
PERFORMANCES
Engines run cooler by 15°C (30°F) : Improves thermal exchange and engine cooling system
efficiency.
Cooling system optimal protection against corrosion.
Recommended for magnesium, aluminium alloys cases, cast iron, copper, brass and bronze systems.
Water pump protection, avoid cavitation
Anti-corrosion properties that remain while high temperature and ageing. Low corrosion inhibitors
consumption.
Seals, rubber pipes, and plastics parts friendly.
RECOMMENDATIONS
MOTUL MoCool is a concentrated cooling fluid that may be mixed with distillated water for immediate
use as a coolant.
Mix with water at 5% (20:1).
Do not use pure product.
Can be mixed with most coolants monoethyleneglycol based.
