Thank you XPERCAD,
I tried compressing and even separating the pages but the forum still did not want to take it. I didnt realize the upload size limit was so small. The best i can do for all is to just copy and paste as text.. also including images from pages 2 & 3.

Ducati North America
Memo: 1199 Panigale Customer Letter Information
Date: February 7, 2013
To: Dealer Principal, Service Manager, North American Dealer Network
From: Austin Gray, Technical Director; Jonathan LaForte, Technical Manager
Dear Dealers,
Please be informed that DMH will send an e-mail message to all North American 1199 Panigale Customers
regarding the below information.
Ducati feels that it is necessary to inform our 1199 Panigale Customers about new opportunities to upgrade
their motorcycles. The upgrades will provide more powerful engine response at intermediate rpm and improve
riding comfort, due to these latest developments:
 New engine ECU software
 Final drive 41-tooth rear sprocket type-approval
 Heat-guard kit.
The upgrades required to obtain enhanced engine performance at intermediate rpm are the following:
1) New engine ECU software (as described in TSB-12-005 New Engine Control Unit Software). Please
remember that this engine control unit software flowed into production starting from the following
frame numbers:
First 1199 Panigale frame number w/new ECU software
Country version From frame no. Name of new ECU software
CAL ZDM14BPW7DB010313 J01100020204.mot
CDN ZDM14BPW7DB010361 J01100020204.mot
Note
This intervention can be performed under warranty, refer to upgrade
campaign TSB-12-005 New Engine Control Unit Software dated 12/4/ 2012.
2) 41-tooth final drive rear sprocket type-approval extension. This sprocket features two more teeth when
compared to the standard 39 tooth sprocket. When replacing the 39-tooth sprocket with the 41-tooth
part, it will also be necessary to update the engine ECU software with a new version, available as an
ECU map update through the DDS 2.0. This engine ECU software will also be compatible with the 39-
tooth sprocket. Utilization of the new sprocket will also require installation of a longer drive chain.

Note
This intervention is not compulsory. Should the owner request the new
sprocket they must purchase it.
Please be informed that the 41-tooth rear sprocket, the corresponding drive chain and the specific ECU
software will be available from the end of March at a discounted price. For further details please refer
to the Service Bulletin that will be released by the end of March.
The upgrade improving the riding comfort, especially in the warmest weather and in the day-to-day
use of the motorcycle, requires installation of the suitable kit including:
 A double and wider cover for the vertical cylinder exhaust manifold (A)
 A new RH cover for vertical cylinder head (B)
 A new LH cover for vertical cylinder head (C)

Note
In cases where the bike is equipped with the Ducati Performance complete
exhaust system kit or silencer kit, it will be possible to install a wider cover
(the external one being in carbon) for the vertical cylinder exhaust manifold
(D), which is available separately from covers A, B and C.
Note:
Though upgrades concerning riding comfort are not compulsory, the
customer can request them and they can both be performed under
Warranty. When installing the kit for Ducati Performance complete exhaust
system, the customer must provide suitable evidence of kit purchase
(attach invoice for purchase of the kit or invoice of bike, if it was purchased
with exhaust kit installed to warranty claim on DCS); for further details,
please refer to the upgrade campaign TSB that will be released at the end
of February.
All 1199 Panigale currently being assembled at, and shipped by, DMH to any destination have already
been fitted with the new vertical cylinder head cover and exhaust cover kit. Dealers can upgrade any
bike in stock during PDI. As this is NOT a safety recall campaign bike warranty activation will not be
blocked. For further information please see previously communicated "Memo- Heat Shield Upgrade".
Ducati Performance complete exhaust system or silencer kits in our warehouses have already been
upgraded with the new heat guard. If you have any in stock, please upgrade them during PDI.

1199 Panigale customers will be receiving the below e-mail communication. Do not hesitate to contact
your area managers for any further detail. Please help us take the appropriate steps to ensure that all
customer motorcycles are properly updated:
"Dear Customer,
Your 1199 Panigale has, as well as winning your trust, won an impressive number of prizes in 2012 for
its style, technology and incredible performance, making us extraordinarily proud.
In line with tradition, the development and updating of such a prestigious model never ends; we're
excited ahead of the upcoming sporting season that will see the 1199 Panigale debut in the Superbike
championship and renew its efforts in the Superstock championship, where the differences between
your bike and the race bike are truly minimal.
This development work, which is consolidated with the launch of the 1199 Panigale R, has allowed us
to obtain a series of solutions that we are pleased to make available to you from the end of February, to
give you - as we do with every Ducati rider - important updates to help you make the most of the best
twin sport bike of all time.
We have developed solutions to ensure an increase in mid-range power, in particular:
 a new electronic engine mapping, which also optimizes the Quick Shift system
 the chance to use a Z41 rear sprocket, to shorten the final ratio.
These innovations mean that you can experience even better performance, when riding on the track,
from the Ducati Performance exhaust that you have already bought or will decide to install.
And that's not all: if you want we will fit your 1199 Panigale, free of charge, with a new heat shield on
the vertical cylinder and exhaust system, to improve comfort especially in hot weather and during daily
use.
We're sure that these touches will be appreciated by those, like you, that have chosen a product that is
absolutely at the top of its line. We hope to meet you soon at one of the many events that bring the
Ducati family together."
Thank you for your continuing support.

Anyone know the discounted cost on the 41T sprocket and chain?

Mulling the idea of changing sprocket. Don't want the umap changed from the update my dealer gave me back in early march.

New upmap improves quickshifter performance and is better response to suit the 41t upgrade.
Chain and sprocket are retailing at approximately 1/2 retail cost £75 each item in the UK + 1 hours labour to fit.

Try it.......you won`t be dissappointed :)

link is no longer working can someone repost it?

So i just got the heat shields installed on both sides of the engine only, NOT on the rear pipe that curls under the seat. AND i got my first heat rash on my right thigh. It seems like the aerodynamics of the shield are completely off even when going at speeds over 60mph. the shield has a vent hole for the hot air to escape and circles right into my thigh lol.. riding at air temperature of around 65F going around 60-70mph and hugging the tank with my legs made my thigh burn forcing me to put my leg out. hugging the tank creates an air pocket for the heat from the engine shield to get trapped in.. i did not have this issue without the shields, i felt the heat but it was spread out and riding at highway speeds hugging the tank i did not feel it at all..
my solution to this issue last night was to tie a bandanna around my jeans in the thigh region.. both me and my GF liked the look.. it may become a new fashion statement :D:p

Interesting, I opted for the exhaust shield and not the engine shield and have no problem at all. Although, I didn't really think it was that bad beforehand, I was worried when summer rolled around.

I wasn't sure which of the heat threads to post in so I just picked one. Now that the temps are getting up much higher I am starting to notice the heat a lot more. I do NOT have the new shields installed, but I don't think they would help me with the heat problem I am experiencing. What I have noticed is that I tend to get burned (or near burned since I move my legs first) where I grab the bike with my legs/knees and they touch the frame. Even reaching down and resting my hand on the frame pieces where my legs touch them is really hot. Anybody else have the same issue? I don't see the shields helping, but konrads bandana solution might work. :)

Here is a pic of the exact area I am talking about:

How about a nice set of carbon side/frame covers to put on there Capt? - you know I have a personal set waiting for you in my garage! lol. :)

That's not a horrible idea. I suspect those frame pieces being bolted directly to the engine is causing heat to transfer directly from the engine to those metal bits. Mine even feel hot with gloved hands when the engine is up in the 215+ range.

You don't have the cyclinder covers on yet? They do install in that area.

Sorry to bring back a dead thread but just wondering what you all were charged for the Sprocket and chain, and install time @ Stealership?

If I decide to do this I'm going to go to Ducati Manhattan. Does anyone know if they'll give me any .... because I didn't buy my bike from them?
I've heard of some dealerships giving the cold shoulder to servicing a new bike you bought 30 miles away...

Also, how do you guys like the bottom performance of the 41? That much of a difference?

Thanks
-Dylan
