Welcome aboard! If you are planning on a new 1199S next year, you should consider saving up a bit more for a used R.

mmmm, sounds good, but i want it new and i know my budgetary limits! (sometimes)

Also, this may be (is) a cop out, but i don't like the color scheme on the "R". I want ALL Ducati Red, i don't like the silver accent on the tank.

I actually don't like the white accents on the R. It looks like Ducati got lazy and just slapped on some crappy designs. I like the exposed aluminum, but not how they designed it on the R. Haven't seen it in person yet, so it could look better in person. I'm sure someone would trade you a red tank for the exposed aluminum one, haha.

Hey Tank,

Said hi to you on the other forum, this one is much better in my still-limited experience. When you do get one, I'd love to hear the comparison to your S1KRR racebike. After most recently coming off of a heavily-upgraded Crossplane R1, I would think the S1KRR would be the better streetbike. The Pani's powerband is a bit more concentrated and seems better suited to the track when compared to those bikes.

I've only got 160 miles of break-in so far, but I've been hitting every corner I can and absolutely love how light the bike is. It feels like a 600 compared to my previous literbikes.

What's up Jeff,

I can't really speak to the S1K being a good street bike, I only had 600 break in miles on it to meet the dealers minimum to remove the rev limiter. Then I swapped all plastics and lights, safety wire and number everything for racing. Those 600 miles were a 175 miles trip home from the dealer, a long interstate drive down 95 and then back to the dealer.

However, for the 1199 I would just use it for living room furniture (just kidding), :) I can't say I would not put it on the track, because that's what she was built for, but I would not race it. I also believe that's the only safe place to get the most out of any Sport bike / superbike, if that's the intent. Other than that, I've just always admired Ducati's from a distance, but never got up close. I would probably ride it a few times a week and then just look at her the rest of the time. It would probably end up being the bike I wash and wax the most. I'm too old to hit the local bike night and show it off to the ladies. At 42 I have my own ladies that age, that I have raised, so that would be weird.

But, im pretty much decided against the "R", first it's almost 30k! Second thats a bit much race gear for what I will be doing on it. The "S" is even a bit much, but when I hear Ducati i think Ohlins. I just have always associated Ducati with Ohlins, in my mind they are a pair. So its gotta have Ohlins suspension. Soooooo"¦
