New Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP
ENGINE: Peak power and torque are unchanged at 215bhp and 83lbft, Honda says internally, virtually all-new to improve delivery throughout the range.

Compression has been raised from 13.4:1 to 13.6:1, the intake ports adjusted, and valve timing altered in conjunction with lighter valves and new valve springs.

There’s a lighter crank and lighter titanium con rods. Friction is reduced via DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coatings on the cam lobes and big end surfaces while pistons are now forged from A2618 aluminium, like the exotic RCV213V-S.

FRAME: is totally uprated & swingarm based on the RC213V-S.

SUSPENSION: It now has the third generation Öhlins Smart Electronic Control suspension; 43mm NPX forks and a TTX36 rear shock. A further new addition is a new digital spring preload display on the five inch TFT dash

BRAKES: are the new Brembo Stylema R calipers, 330m discs

AERO: new winglets to improve braking stability and deliver consistent front-end grip.

ERGONOMICS: bars now higher and footpegs lower than before making it easier to move around the bike

ELECTRONICS: new ‘two-motor’ ride by wire throttle and the gear ratios have also been shortened to improve acceleration. The electronics are essentially unchanged but all settings have been revised according to the revised performance delivery

A SPECIAL CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP Carbon Edition is also being offered which is limited to just 300 units and will feature a commemorative plaque as well as having a carbon fibre front mudguard, three-part fairing including winglets plus mudguard cover which together reduce overall weight by 1kg.

Apparently,

I see they offer it already fitted with HRC ECU/Loom as well as non cat race exhaust

Is this a good thing or bad thing?

Lol was thinking the same thing. Why would we want to have anything to do with an RCV?

Besides that tongue in cheek comment, how much can actually be transferred from one to the other considering V4 vs I4? I'm thinking not much.

Brake calipers, MC only I guess

The reason for the thread like is,

Honda is silly money with HRC electronics vs. V4R (with Evo3, as anything better will cost much more)

BSB supersport love Hondas, look up starting grids in 2023, lots moved to Hondas due to enough power and amazing electronics out of the box. BMW Motec probably has more features but from I hear much more difficult to tune for performance.

Not really talking about WSBK level, just National supersports where TC and electronics is allowed.

CIV is probably an outlier, has a mixture of Ducati, BMW and Honda

I’m confused. Are they releasing a new version in 2024?

The eicma link seems to be talking about 2022

Apologies silly me, link is wrong.

Here is German, can't find anything in English yet

Was driving in Misano the other weekend, my totally original -22S was exactly similar in power as a CBR. But he had tuning map and airfilter + full exhaust. Honda is also very hard to drive fast, extremely short powerband. Will the new engine update get the Honda back to how easy they where to ride earlier generations, hope so.

Compare the prices. You pay for all those features in advance

I rode a 2022 version of this bike that had a tune, a pipe, and sone suspension upgrades. To be honest I liked it almost as much as my V4, just as exciting, and the front end is VERY good on that bike. I liked it so much that I seriously considered buying one, the reason I didn’t was two things…the power delivery was weird, no power at all below about 7500 rpm then when you hit 7500 rpm it took off like it was fired out of a canon. Total night and day in the power delivery, like an on off switch and I didn’t like it. The second reason was the footpegs were so high that the riding position was untenable for a guy my size. But man, above 7500 rpm that bike is an absolute beast.

If the new version addresses the weird power delivery and the ergonomics it might just be a hell of a bike. Looks like BMW is upping their game and now maybe Honda will close the gap on the Panagali too…guess we’ll see.

Did the bike you rode have an emission compliant tune (homologated OEM) or a race/track use one?

If you don't have HRC ECU on it, it's no point even comparing. HRC electronics is very advanced. Luckily one of the cheapest packages out there.

Honda make excellent bikes and I'd have no problem owning one except I like Ducati's more. Honda build quality, spares, service etc is generally very good and theres a lot to like about this bike. Considering all the championships, podiums in MotoGP its the got the best pedigree of them all but MotoGP in 2023 has diverged so far from road bikes with shapeshifters, aero etc that they dont relate at all to road. Prior to the spec ECU, Honda were miles ahead of anyone with electronics and to compare their road offerings with what they use to manage a specific tire on track is sort of a red herring.

Their 213V-S with the track package, Id take that over any R Panigale even today just for the joy of owning the closest thing to a GP bike with lights that you can get.

Apparently it’s supposed to have better ergonomics and better power delivery from the little I have read thus far.

It would be nice to see Honda getting back in the mix in WSBK and I’m also fascinated to see what Toprak can do on the BMW and Ray on the Yamaha (promising first test). Tragic not to see Suzuki around as well.

Honda really should be up there.
