Hot HOT... too hot?

........!

They also have world class engineers at Ducati, and it's unfathomable they can not design something that vents 150 degree heat away from the rider. All it takes is a few well placed heat barriers and proper venting.

Exactly. Heat generated at a given load is directly proportional to the power output at that point, considering a race engine would have a cooling system dimensioned for extremes theres no reason for the v4 generating more heat while goimg at low revs . Shielding and channelling is just no good. Its too tight in there trapping air at low speed. Have seen the aftermarket heat shields but sceptic. In principle its sound bit its so tight under the seat and behind the fairing that adding even those thin sheets migh restrict flow, just making a new problem. Btw. Thermal properties of CF doesnt gibe an advantage over typ. Plastics used so wont make any difference unless designed differently e.g with increased distance from the heat source, insulated and with radiation shield. Keepimg the tank full helps a lot an the seat temp. Btw.

Saying the heat is caused by performance is a poor excuse.

Try the RSV4. 205hp v4 and no heat, not even in 100+ weather !

Shame that Ducati can't do the same...

Perhaps the extra 10kg the RSV4 has over the Ducati is this heat shielding that you speak of?

This is the trade off.

What? 600cc vs an 1100cc of course the bigger bike uses more so yes, bigger displacement, more fuel, V4 more cylinders, more bangs per revolution.... look at the catalogue, less mpg, so yes, definitely more fuel consumption!

And if you're putting along at 25, well then there is your heat issue....

Of course 600cc. Why would you compare a 600cc bike out of the blue? I am referring to other 1000cc bikes..

That and a full perimeter frame which can act as a huge heat sink.

That's probably the main thing. Ducati's of old were also known for heat when they had the trellis frame.

Okay, my bad. But even so, we've also been down this road before on the forum and if you believe that Ducati is the only machine making heat then you are sadly mistaken.

Heat on RSV4R

The forums of other manufacturers are littered with similar threads

Yeah, i remember my 2008 cbr 1000 didn't have the issue but my 2006 r1 sure ran hot. I just wish we could have our cake and eat it too.

I just think it's where we're at with bikes and technology now. We are so close to owning what is essentially a full blown race machine. You try telling me a WSBK doesn't get hot or it's suitable to run down the shops on.

I think that the emission control stuff also has a lot to answer for, as the bikes can't get
the heat straight out of the exh the way they used to. Even KTM had a lot of complaints
about riders suffering heat on the adventure range, and started making small plastic
deflectors for the frame just next to the edge of the saddle as a band aid for the symptom.

Hey Glen . I have a KTM 1290 R and never has the heat bothered me . The Panigale doesn't either .
Weird hey

I'm the same mate. Have a 1090R and the pani. Heat has never crossed my mind,
though euro climates aren't that extreme compared to some.

I'm in Australia . Getting your plums cooked dosnt get any better than here .

It's a matter of what people find acceptable or not. Snowflakes don't like heat :D

if I am not at the track practicing or racing, on a incidentally cool to the nuts zx, I do Sunday canyon runs of about 200 to 300 miles. Either on the duke 1290 or R1 being my favorites. I always gravitate to these. They are cool for the nuts and comfortable in my opinion.
As a matter of fact, the R1 is probably more comfortable overall, especially when traveling at speed.
So if I rode my V4 , why should I think that roasting my nuts is acceptable ?
If I don’t like hot fookin nuts and some of you do , so be it.
To each his own.

And for what it’s worth, the v4 isn’t a racing bike with lights. It’s just a damn good superbike. No racier than any of the others.

How is 4 seconds off of the Valencia MotoGP lap record out of the crate not a race bike.......

I remember when I brought my 2012 1199 home. Rode it home from the dealer about 45 minutes.

Get in the house, and of course my wife and daughter are super excited. I run upstairs to put on shorts because I was overheating. Come downstairs and my daughter sees the burns on the insides of both thighs from the f'in exhaust. lol.

Yeah, it's hot. And its a Panigale. Some things in life are an exercise in self control. The Pani-dropper reinforced this for me every time I took it out...
