Out of warranty on a bike that has been tracked and raced?

The motor is this bike. If the motor was ran hard then there is less life in it. Too expensive to fix if it fails.

If u could jump on that extended warranty then hell yeah go for it.

If not id pass.

I think everyone knows what happens to warranties once a bike gets raced. I think everyone has seen the thread "Threw a rod".

Which thread is that? Joke.

R engines are especially expensive. 29k from ducati? How they can justify that price is beyond me. Hell most of the parts prices are like wtf!?!

I wouldn't pay 29k for an R engine. I think Base engine, Carillo rods, stage 3 Ben fox crankshaft work, head work with Titanium valves. This will get you 1199 moving.....

Just have the moor freshened up and factor that into the purchase price. Should only cost a few thousand. You can put in a thinner head gasket and fix any other issues while in there and have a motor with more power and be reliable for another race season.

I would think about 20K. Need to factor in a rebuild as Shakazulu said. I never had motor work done on my 1199 when I had it, but if its around the cost of other bikes.. 3K ball park but never know what they are going to find when they open it. Also the level of rider matter here. If he is just a novice level guy then I would not be as concerned as an expert level. Lots of factors. But I think 20 is a fair place to start.

And seriously, no mods? Seems odd that someone would buy an R as a dedicated race/track bike and not at least have the suspension done and fitted an exhaust.

I dont follow. The R comes with the Termi and top notch suspension. If/when I get one (an R that is) , I dont have plans other than slicks and track plastics. I fall in the proper weight for the suspension so, yea, I could see not doing any mods.

Trackdays, sure.

But racing? Huge difference between factory and aftermarket Ohlins. I spaced the end cans though.

Agreed, do a suspension set up anyway, you might be surprised.

It was heavily modded for the track before. The only thing that is track-like now are the O2 bungs on the Exhaust Manifolds. Otherwise it was put back to stock.
