How to Adjust the gear lever V4

Hi I have tried to adjust my gear level as its a bit to high and I need to lower it as ive missed a few gears etc, I have tried following the instructions in the owners manual but I still cant get it to adjust.
I have loosened nut 2 however I cannot get the long spindle arm 1 to turn, I tried to put a spanner on the nut net to 2 to turn it but it will not move and I have started to round of the nut, I tried to put a spanner on the cut out A but due to the fairing in the way I cannot get a decent purchase on it to move it, before I take off the lower fairing etc I thought I would ask if I'm doing something wrong and if there is a quick and easy way to adjust the gear lever without all the hassle of removing the lower fairing.

So you are saying that I need to remove the lower fairing on that side, should I just use an open ended spanner on A to turn it, I managed to loosen nut 2 no problem however I tried to turn linkage 1 by putting an open end spanner on the hex part on the end of linkage 1 (which in the diagram is directly next to 2), but due to the lack of space with the rear set etc I am unable to turn the linkage bar to allow any adjustment, I also tried it while nut 2 was loose by putting a spanner on A but again there is no room to turn the spanner so I'm at a loss on how to turn it, so far it reminds stiff and unable to turn this maybe due to not being moved before and I don't want to put too much pressure on it as I have already started to round off the hex part on the end of the linkage next to 2, if you think removing the fairing is correct then ill do that, are normal spanners ok to turn the linkage, any idea on the sizes to be used

I have tried to do some research myself, what I have come across on other Ducati forums is: it states I have to remove the rear set and the dismantle the linkage by a ball join to adjust it which completely contradicts the owners manual I have added above, has no one ever needed to adjust the gear shifter on a V4, currently mine is too high for me and I would like to lower it, any help is most gratefully received

Hi,
8 and 12 are right-hand threads, so you have to remove 11 to adjust the lever! If it's not possible for you to remove 11 when the rear set is mounted, you have to dismantle the rear set!

Thanks hunter for your reply, I will see if I can remove 11 with the rear set on if not then its off with the rear sets, WTF does the manual say different it just doesn't make sense, surely you should just be able to adjust the gear level quickly with just a few spanners and with everything in place, if I do remove the rear set are there specific torque settings for when I replace it

Torque is 25Nm, but you can also mark the position with a paint stick before loosening the screw.

Thanks mate, so, I loosen 10, undo & remove 11, stupid question which way do I turn 12 to lower the gear lever

Just try it, I think with normal shifting you have to shorten the distance - so turn to the right. With reversed shifting, to the left.

Thread revival...

First, Hunter2806 - Thanks, but where did you find that diagram? It is the only one I've seen that actually looks like my bike.

Secondly, can you turn part 9 relative to part 8 to get more length in the linkage? I need the gear level higher with the boots I wear (Streetfighter V4, not Panigale), but have already wound out part 12 almost all the way to the end of the thread where it connects to part 9, and I don't dare go any further. So can I also wind out part 9 from the thread into part 8? Part 8 looks plastic and complex/technical where the flats are to grip it (it is the sensor part of the quickshifter I think), so I don't dare put torque on it in order to wind out part 9 from it. Am I being too careful? Or am I right, and I can't get any extra length where 8 and 9 connect?
