Hey guys as you know my wife's 1299 is a base model and it comes with crappy lights, i was wondering how would i go about installing xenon lights or HID lights in place of the crappy light bulbs?

Have you guys done it before and could you list parts and part numbers and where to buy them thanks guys.

Alternatively could we just replace the H11 light bulb with a H11 LED light bulb?

you seem to ask a lot of mechanical question...there is a section for that. post it there.

It depends on whether you want the new lights for show, or for actual lighting improvement. If for show, just get HID kit. If for actual improvement, get the Philips super bright bulbs and call it a day..

Philips Xtreme +130% bulbs will do it. I had them on my BMW S1000RR and they were a really good improvement over stock. I ride at nights with deer, coyotes. elk, bobcats, raccoons, possums etc. and need all the light I can get.

I installed HID's on my 1199 and Cree LEDs on my Panigale R. I recommend the Leds over the HIDs the ballast are smaller and they fit under the contrail/air ducts, the HIDs are big even the slim ones are a pain to mount. The output of both are about the same the same. I aslo installed them both on my sons and my friends 959's. Easy to install.

So to replace the light bulb i still need to undo side fairings and front fairings or do i just undo something behind the light to pop the old light bulb out?

i have just bought a white light bulb at 4500 lumens it's a cheaper option to get rid of that ugly yellow/orange light bulbs.

remove the connector off the headlights. twist light 1/4 turn and they pop off. no need to remove fairings.

I couldnt' get my hand in those tight spots lol and the connectors are really hard to undo because i cant pivot my hand in that tight space.

:(

So what i tried to do was trying to remove the black plastic around the top of the fuel tank near the triple tree in order to give me more space but that didn't go too well because i couldn't get the black plastic to come out hahaha.

Thread started by PGH1199 Aug.17, 2016 (snapshot below) helped me with same issue, keeping in mind I was only after better colour vs. better projection.

Yes it was a tight squeeze, but key for me was to remove, "twist the bulb toward the middle of the bike and wiggle the bulb out". This was a relatively easier task than others I've done on my Panigales, which can often test one's patience.

Just keep trying, I'm sure you'll get it. Good luck...

"New headlights easy fix"
I purchased the bulbs on eBay (link).

Philips H11 Ultimate Diamond Vision 5000K Halogen Bulbs HID Xenon Germany | eBay

The size was written on the back of the OEM bulb. Size H11 12volt 55watt. The link above is the same size. Not sure about the 1299 size assume it's the same.

As for the install all you need to do is un-clip at the black finger. It looks like it should be the gray part but it's not (Ducati). Once unplugged twist the bulb toward the middle of the bike and wiggle the bulb out. It helps if you remove the semi-circle rubber cover above. Put the new bulb in twist away from middle and plug the "clip" back in. Repeat on the other side. No need to remove any plastics but it is a tight squeeze.

Hope this helps.

Hey guys thanks for everything we finally did it - i had to use my wife's little hand to get those light bulb out lol.

My hands are too big - i did have to take out the ignition key plastic off to give us more room and it finally worked.

Didn't need to take the fairings out at all - finally she now have matching white lights - no more stupid yellowy orange running lights :)

Do you guys reckon this will work on a base 1299?

I used these

you will have to thin out the locking tabs to the size of the tabs on the OEM light bulbs because they are to thick.

Note: they will not fit on the high beam without modifying (cutting some plastic off the air duct)

The colors are close to the LEDs

Where did you find the Cree leds and what type did you install?

Be aware that some aftermarket bulbs may melt the lens/housing.
