Hy,
Just started troubleshooting this.....

After a winter lay off, replaced the battery and after 2 weeks its dead again. replaced the battery and the bike now randomly comes alive on its own, no key, lights on.
Unplugged the oem alarm, inspected connector no faults. Symptoms the same without the alarm. The starter button is inop when this happens btw..
Putting the key in with the dash lit and fuel pump running, turn ign on and the starter operates normally. Switch ign off, sometimes fuel pump/injectors buzz away..
Taking the fuel pump relay out kills the bike when the key out condition occurs. 100ohm across the relay coil and primary contacts open circuit with power off. There appears to be 13v at the relay socket, assuming this is normal with the ecu switching the earth when required. Refitting the relay seems to trigger the condition again but not always.
About to take out the BBS unit and inspect but I'm at a loss with this 'strange' effect.

Wondered if there are any other instances out there that might be similar,..? only one I could find was with a supersport939... Any pointers in the right direction appreciated.
I have a video I'll post up later.

So, it appears theres batt volts on the r/y wire from the e-lock module to the e-lock relay with the ignition off, key out. This isnt the case with the wifes 959. Checking the relay base theres zero V with key off and out....as you'd expect looking at the wiring diagram.
So the 12V supply from the e-lock module is being supplied regardless of key position. When the bike comes alive on its own with key 'off', the starter button is inhibited although the dash, fuel pump etc runs. Turning the key on in this condition allows the starter to function so the e-lock system is recognising the key position/presence. I'm thinking the CAN line to/from the ECU is there to purely allow engine operation...so how do I'm thinking the e-lock module needs replacing??

Perhaps someone can correct me here, from what I see in the manual and what the bikes doing, the e-lock (ignition switch) ought to trigger or handshake with the ECU when a key is sensed in the lock via the CANBUS, this two way comms then enables the e-lock relay (fuel pump, ign etc..) by way of 12v out enabled from and by the ign switch?
So, I'm faced with a choice of spurious e-lock operation waking up the ecu, or more worryingly, the ecu waking itself up without a key in the lock? Which scenario is most likely? I also have a 959 at my disposal so I could swap the e-locks and keys between bikes which I believe could be done as the ecu's no longer in the immo loop as it was in the 999 days? Not sure that melcodiag would be any use here..
Any suggestions out there? 😎

My money is on a short somewhere. Probably start around that P0460.....

Solid state electronics don’t typically have a high rate of failure. I wouldn’t replace the BBS without throughly inspecting the wiring and connectors, in particular the one for the BBS.

Thanks for your reply. I ended up putting my e-lock onto my other halfs 959 and replicated the issue there. so the e-lock is defo to blame. Hopefully this helps someone in the future.

I think my Ducati 959 is having the same problem. I am trying to fix the short circuit issue at the e-lock myself. I will report back once it is resolved.

When you say stalled, did all the power drop out completely or just the engine cut out?

The power completely went out. I noticed it when the headlights went off, and the dashboard went dark.
So, my initial thought was that the e-lock relay had an issue. After getting home and leaving it overnight, I found the battery completely drained. Later, I discovered that the signal from the e-lock to the relay had shorted, keeping it in an always-on state.

I tried to take apart the e-lock and found that it was sealed with adhesive. There is no direct contact between the lock cylinder and the e-lock; it operates via magnetic induction. I believe this part is fine. Therefore, I will visit the dealer tomorrow to ask for their opinion.

I just went to the Ducati dealer and got it fixed. They connected it to the diagnostic computer and found that the e-lock had lost communication with the BBS. After clearing the fault code, everything returned to normal. Hahaha!

Yes, I am back again. After leaving it for a while, I found that the battery was dead again. Obviously, there is still a problem with the e-lock (same issue as described by the original poster). I have sent the bike to the repair shop, and it will take two weeks to check.

Some grease monkey has been in the bike and hacked the wiring. Only God knows what the problem is. I'd rather wire an entire race car from scratch. Good luck.

😂😂😂 I did have a look at the PCB in the elock myself, it's well and truly potted. I'm hoping this isn't a programmed failure as it's a full lock set to replace...$500 to replace. It's capable of all sorts of failures, worst being shutting down whilst riding. The relay is the same part as the adjacent one. You can swap them but if guess it's not the relay. Get your wallet out. ...🚬

Howdy fellas. 2015 1299S, with the same issue.
Hadn’t ridden the bike in 5 years due to health issues and decided to try again.
Did a complete service to the bike and added Rapidbike and some BSD switches.
Fired up the bike and she runs perfectly.
Try to shut down with the key and nothing happens. Bike keeps running with no key.
Able to shut off engine with Start/Stop switch but, dash and lights are still on.

Checked everything i can think of and can’t figure this one out.
Returned everything to stock and it made no difference.
If I disconnect the ignition switch or the switch relay, systems shut down.
Reconnect switch and or relay and everything is good for one key cycle and then I’m back to square one.
Have scanned the vehicle and all systems appear to be working correctly with no fault codes.
Bike is completely stock with no electrical modifications besides the Rapidbike Racing module and harness which I have removed to test making no difference.
I’m at a loss.
Any and all ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
