I’m trying to remove the axle nut and need an impact. Does anyone know if 600ft pounds of break away torque is enough or do I need to go higher.

If you have taken yours off please let me know what impact you used and it’s rating.

I’ve used a breaker bar in the past.

Mine is too short. And with all the work I’m doing on this thing I figured some real tools makes sense, hence the impact. But I don’t want to over do it. I know a 1400 break away torque wrench will work easy but it’s heavy and I won’t use it for anything else. I’d like the smallest I can buy but it has to take that damn nut off. If it’s small enough I can use it for other things.

I use a Dewalt cordless impact rated for 450ft/lbs to zip the axle nut off my V4 Panigale (same axle setup as the 1299). I recommend putting some tape or something around the inside of the socket you use to avoid marring the nut, if that's something you care about.

Thanks!

That’s a good idea, probably a bit too late.

a breaker bar with a cheater pipe works fine if it was tightened and lubed properly. kinda not a fan of using impacts on anything with sensors.

The rear axle has a sensor? This is the 1st time the axle nut has been off so I know it’s tight. My attempts with my breaker bar spun the rear wheel with someone sitting on it and on the brake. I refuse to put it gear though.

my concern is for the sensors on the motor. things like knock sensors are done if you drop them on the floor. hall and temp sensors are ok. (yes, i am overly anal about things.)

if you have race type pads, they may not have enough bite if they are cold. i would try it with the brakes heated up a little then go the impact route if that doesn't work.

it was the first time my rear tire was removed and installed so it came off like butter. the blinker was kinda in the way of the torque wrench on the install but that was the only issue.

Ah, okay. For that reason I don’t leave it in gear. It’s way too late to warm the rear brake but that makes sense. It’s all apart for service. Oil, Antifreeze, Air filter, windscreen, chain and sprockets, and bleed clutch, and front and rear brakes. Front didn’t need it but clutch and rear fluid was dark. I may need to check the rear for air.

You can remove all that brake line mess, hoses and other stuff in the way much easier to maintain the bike and easier to work on as well.

That will be plenty. Make sure to place something between the socket and nut so you don’t mark it up. Breaker bar can work but will be a pig’s ear. Impact driver will have the nut off in no time. Good luck.

I used a Harbor Freight electric 1/2" impact and it came right off. Have the rear on the ground and mash the rear brake. Done.

Running rear wheel speed under the clutch cover like that negatively effected traction control on my bike

Mighta messed with the resistance being so close to the exhaust?

Dunno...

Where did you get a carbon clear clutch cover Mick?

And why are there wires hanging outta yer fairing?
