That is the way my bike was delivered and the French dealer told 41T it is now standard on new bikes.

Can anyone confirm this?

My dealer did tell me yesterday that Ducati is offering their own upgrade sprocket 'kit' now, maybe the 2013 includes the 'kit' as standard equipment.

Anyone? Buehler? Anyone?

They are providing a 41T sprocket and chain at a discounted price. But alot of OPs have bought an AFAM or similar instead as the price is about the same as the dealer, and provides a lighter and quick-change capable alternative.

After reading the responses, if cost was a concern you could have simply bought the $40 14t front sprocket. The OEM 525 chain won't wear nearly as fast and it's the equivalent of going up nearly 3 teeth in the rear, so if you like the feeling with 2 teeth in the rear, then it stands to reason that one more will be even better :D I did this and the transformation was similarly impressive - night and day IMHO.

Regarding the weight, I would like to see someone actually weigh the complete 525 setup to the 520 setup. In an aftermarket upgrade by Sport Rider magazine, they found the following in switching from 525 to 520 chain and sprockets: Sport Rider Magazine ZX-10R Upgrades

"We then decided to replace the stock 525-size chain and sprockets with a smaller 520-size setup from Driven Racing. We were delivered a 16/40 final drive combination to replace the stock 17/39, which shortened the gearing substantially for quicker acceleration. Although aluminum aftermarket sprockets were popular in the past (and Driven does sell them), their high wear rates have dropped them from favor among many sportbike riders; our $249.00 Driven sprocket kit came with the company’s steel sprockets. Interestingly, despite the thinner sprockets and smaller-pitch chain, the Driven sprocket kit’s weight was basically identical to stock, with the stock chain and sprockets weighing 6.38 pounds and the Driven sprockets/RK chain coming in at 6.30 pounds."

The only real consideration is it puts more wear on the front sprocket, and more torque as there is 1 less tooth. Conversely, going up 2 in the back increases sprocket life on the rear.

Interesting. Could any other 2013 owners in the US please confirm this?

I have a 2013 and I have the 39t sprocket, but I picked mine up before the R's were out! I'm guessing once they started delivering the r's the later 2013's came with the 41t sproket:mad:

I doubt it given that the R has 500 more RPM. Again, I seriously doubt it.

520 Conversion

I did the 520 conversion as well, I thought I was riding a different bike! you get so much faster to the curve of the torque with this change.
I bought the D.I.D EVR3 Chain with AFAM Rear 41t and 15 front and Ducati Corse Carrier bronze color with Titanium hardware. It makes my Pani feel like a totally different bike, not to mention that the smoothness at lover RPM. :D

Maybe a case of dealer mis-information.

On the main Ducati site, and Australia and France it says 39

Maybe my dealer did the conversion. They had also installed the DP fender/plate holder kit and did not charge for it. I will double check when I visit the dealer next week.

This is my next upgrade. Proper track bikes with 30 less hp are beating me in the straights bc of higher gearing. What's the best setup for lightweight. I went to that aem website but its not exactly straight forward.

I have this thing for Titanium, in a bad way, so please realize this when you price it:

Titanium Hub Flange (6 hole)

OMG Trauma. Do you get a head job from some gorgeous babe with that for that price ?

Seriously is there a massive weight difference for that ?

I am pretty keen on this conversion as the next project on the bike and was thinking of going the lightweight route but this may be out of my range.

Great mod though for knocking down the unsprung weight :) Well done.

So, what does this mod accomplish... Weight savings ? Quicker acceleration ? Sorry, never heard of this...

Same effect as driving in the right gear.

With the stock gear ratio 15/39, riding the 1199 was "almost" like driving in 3rd when you should be in 2nd. Not quite that bad, but definitely noticeable when the rpms are below 3k.
Changing the rear sprocket to 41t, makes the FDR just right for the superquadro.
