2013 Pani

I got my 2103 Pani after they started selling the R and mine came with 39t when I asked my dealer if they were providing a discount for 41t they told me no. So I got mine someplace else.

Stock chain?

Same effect as driving in the right gear.

With the stock gear ratio 15/39, riding the 1199 was "almost" like driving in 3rd when you should be in 2nd. Not quite that bad, but definitely noticeable when the rpms are below 3k.
Changing the rear sprocket to 41t, makes the FDR just right for the superquadro.

Is it possible to upgrade to a 41 tooth rear without changing anything else? Will the stock chain fit?

No . You need a new chain is the best advice . If you must you can but the rear sprocket runs very close to touching the swing arm .

hmmm, I guess the question is, do I go with the whole 520 conversion thing....

Is adding an extra link to the stock chain not an option?

it is not, unfortunately. I went through this - cut the chain to 104 links (103 + master) and with the wheel all the way forward, it's like half a link too short. Plus then the chain would be too tight, etc.

adding "one" link is actually adding two, and it takes 106 links to handle a 15/41 setup. Cost me $200 in extra chains to learn this lesson.

I do have an AFAM PCD-4 and a 15T and 40T 520 sprocket set, along with the aforementioned 104 link chain, all unused, that I'd be willing to let go for cheap. You'd have to reuse your cush drives and stock flange, but it's the minimum you need for a 520 conversion.
