Hi forum members,

I'm currently in the process of considering a purchase of a Ducati Panigale 1199 with 15,000 miles on it, and the seller is asking for $10,500 in California. I wanted to seek your opinions and suggestions regarding this deal before making a final decision.

Here are some key details:

Model: Ducati Panigale 1199
Mileage: 15,000 miles
Price: $10,500
Considering the specifications and the price, I'd appreciate your input on whether this is a good deal. Are there any specific concerns I should have about a bike with this mileage? What are the typical maintenance costs for a bike like this? Are there any known issues or common problems I should be aware of?

Your insights and experiences would be invaluable in helping me make an informed decision. Feel free to share any suggestions, advice, or alternatives you may have.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

what year 1199? base or S model?

I put 25K miles on a 1199 and around 18K miles so far on my 1299.

At 15K miles that bike is due for a desmo service, so find out and get proofs it was already done. IF not done, youll need to get that serviced at around $2500, more if they make adjustments. Having been through 3 desmo services myself, they have never been out of spec so thats kinda good, figure another 600-1000USD if adjustments are needed.

I think 10.5K is high for a base model 1199, unless its the S model, then yes, barring no visible damage and you get a good vibe from the seller, then i'd prolly jump on it. The S comes with nice wheels and upgraded suspension, about 4-6K if you want to add that yourself, so again, 10.5 is good price if S model.

Having owned both 11 and 12 '99s I can tell you the 1199 is more raw and aggresive, but the 12 is easier to ride faster, the electronics on the 12 are much better though and more seamless. The 12 also has more T and HP in the midrange wich is pretty lacking on the 1199. I had exhaust and tune on my 1199 and that helped quite a bit.

The 1199's base model forks have issues with blown dust seals, meaning youll get fork oil weeping down the tube, so make sure you put your fingers along inside of both tubes near the front brakes..if there is any weeping youll need to get the forks rebuilt. Thats about $450 for the rebuild kit, plus most suspension guys gonna charge you 400-600 labor.

I'd ask if you can pull the fairings off the bike and inspect all the covers and seals on the motor, particularly the oil cooler and bottom of air box. Head covers also leak, as well as the oil pan sump...so look over everything. Has bike been laid down?? Look at all the touch points that would show damage to see if it has been laid down...

good luck, post some pics if able, and any more questions just ask buddy,

What year is the bike? I have a 2014 1199 base, getting a last year model helps I think because most all the bugs are worked out by then. Only issues I have had is broken shift return spring and leaky valve covers. I paid quite a bit less for my bike in 2019 with 4k miles on the odometer, of course everything went nuts shortly after I bought it so I got lucky. I would try to talk him down, its just a toy don't overpay for it.

Just know, if you buy it, you should be tearing it down, and rebuilding it for its need maintenance. Valves need to be looked at, forks serviced, chain and sprockets may need love.

Plus you want to torque everything proper, but most important, you want to know what you have. You need to know the mechanical state of a bike like this. If your going to ride it like it is supposed to be rode.

Do you know from where i can buy good condition bikes?

Damn lmao. I was planning on selling my 1199 soon for around $10k haha. Has only 3k miles and a .... ton of mods. Might have to list at 15k now.

Thats true. I had the fork oil leaking at like 2k miles. smh. Instead of spending $700 on it - its easier to just get some ohlins forks for a bit more

I found mine on craigslist after looking for over 6 months. Didn't plan on buying a 1199 it just happened to pop up one day. Made a lowball offer and the guy was willing to deal with me. Good luck with your search!

Unless you're bent upon acquiring this very model (which is dated, had multiple niggles and superceeded by better bikes), the price quoted is way high for a machine 11 years old.

It's your choice and every bike is a little different. Personally if the bike is what you want go for it and don't worry what others think
