I took my Panigale 899 to the service center(Motocorsa) due to an oil leak. After diagnosis I was told that the oil pan got cracked and needed to be replaced along with filling of new oil. I was given a quote of $1164 which includes labor charges of $770. I also asked them to give me a quote on a few other items but the labor charges for each are so high.

1. Am i being ripped off or this is how it works at Ducati ?
2. Is this something i can fix myself with a tutorial ?

Any thoughts ?

That all depends on your ability to work on mechanical devices. Are you able to do your own work? If so then this should be self explanatory. 770 labor seems to be set for 4.5 hours which could be correct. You have to take off side panels, lower panel, exhaust, most likely to get to the pan. Then inspection and reversal. It may be a tad on the high side for labor, but seems pretty close.

Yes make friends and find a personal mechanic for minor things, only go to Ducati on any major fixes/ ECU related.

I'm no expert on mechanical devices but this came as a surprise when the labor cost was so much more than the spares alone.

In a word, yes, it is a rip off. This is something you can definitely do yourself. The time consuming part of this job is just getting all the aforementioned crap out of the way. Then it's a pretty easy replacement. And, most of the shop manuals can be found online or Ebay.

There are a couple of sump pans on ebay from the US. Might save you a little cash.

not sure it's a rip off, it's labor intensive and they have to cover their own costs and make some money on it.

You can always do it yourself or go to a back street garage where the hourly labor cost will be less.

Have to remove the muffler to drop the pan not a hard job to do.
Inspect oil screen while your there

If i lived in PNW id come do it for a case of beer. .... THAT. Do it yourself. Lower fairings, exhaust off and then its about 30 more mins of work. You can find a mint oil pan on ebay for $145. .... them!
