Is no one riding their bike?

I have just over 2k on mine but its all track miles...its hard to find time to go in circles that many times.

That's what I'm worried about! Haha I don't want to buy a bike with 2k only to find out it was beat the whole time.

Where'd you ride

Last year I rode down the coast from Washington to Laguna Seca for the Moto GP race and back. This year I did ride 500 miles in the mountains around Oroville CA and did a fun track day at Thunderhill.

Oh nice I was at this last race at Laguna too. Didn't ride though haha.

Yea it was a great ride and surprisingly more comfortable than I expected on the long journey. We stopped halfway for the night and made the trip down in two days.

I'm just entering the market for actually purchasing my first Ducati, and I am shocked to see so many bikes on the market that have between 600-3000 miles on the dial. Am I missing something? Why is nobody riding their bikes...,

/shrug

Have 14.7k on mine (since Mar 2013) and will be taking to dealer in the next few weeks for the 15k service. 40k on my Triumph Sprint.

Stuff gets ridden around here.

5300 miles on mine since purchased on 28 February '14. I ride mine any chance I get, all the miles have been canyons with the exception of 1 track day.

done 12000km service on the Tri and 5000km on the SL.
But it's true, I ride less than 20 years ago. I made most valuable experiences (good and bad) back then in the "old days". Now I am lazy and quantity became quality riding.

24,000km since May 2012, 15,000 in first 18months, as track riding and racing the other bike took over I stopped riding on the road bar riding to coffee with my mates.

Well I guess it doesn't really apply to the group of people in this forum but in general.. It seems like it's a pretty common trend.

Some people purchase these bikes as trophies to show off to the "Jones"...
I remember seeing some guy on one of the forums who had a 1098R Bayliss in his house on a pedestal with velvet ropes around the perimeter as if it was on display at an Bike expo..

While I can't compete with Dennis, I've got 13,000 miles on my R. I've had it for 18 months. And I have two other bikes that I ride regularly (the other Ducati has 20,000 miles on it.)

So, yes, some of us ride our bikes.

I hope you don't think I was trying to make a broad generalization. I feel like most people involved enough to be on a forum will be "riders" as opposed to collectors or squids. But get on cycle trader there are 90 1199s and the majority are under 5k!

I do not think there is such a thing as a typical Ducati rider.....But it is a brand that does attract its fair share of riders who only take short rides every now and then ...hence "racking" up small mileages.... This bike is very comfortable and fun to me..so I do think its their loss.... especially given the depreciation does not appear to worsen with miles..used is used...

Part of those people I'm sure are simply upgrading to the latest n greatest. The others may just be new to Ducati (like myself) and have never gotten used to the Ducati quirks which was not an issue on Japanese bikes so they're goin back to another manufacturer.

As someone coming from Japanese bikes, what are some 'quirks' that I wouldn't have experienced during the test ride that I will experience after a few months of ownership (besides the weird ... clutch .. Haha I killed the bike twice because letting out the clutch was so unforgiving compared to my R1s ect.)

Not sure what you mean by weird ... clutch (no longer dry) but you'll have hard starts, smoke during the early miles on startup, stalling, bogginess low in the rev range, difficulty finding neutral until bike warms up, possibility of nuts n bolts rattling loose due to heavy vibration from the twin motor, I'm sure I'm missing some other .... but u get the point. I never experienced any of these issues with any of my previous Japanese bikes including my British (daytona675) bike but I still wouldn't get rid of this bike.
