Ok, whoever designed the oil filter cover is a moron. That thing is a bitch and a half to get off and I don't see the cover itself standing up to repeated prying on an off. Had anyone seen any aftermarket options for this? Maybe someone should make one.

Other than that it would be easy to change the oil on this bike. I was kind of bummed when I saw they didn't have the screw in filter....but my MV had an element filter which wasn't too bad. But, this on the ducati is really terrible.

Someone talked about either producing a replacement cover or attaching some type of handle on it for easy removal. I'm too lazy to search, but for some reason I think it was Antihero.

Havn't any of you guys noticed the 7 mm thread in the covers boltholes ?? I changed mine to the more normal 8 mm.

Removal is now very easy :D

The cover is a bit unusual but really, is it that bad?

This is more annoying:
I changed the oil in my bike at 7000km, $80 for the oil and $48 for the filter, 15 minutes of time.

At the 12000km service Ducati charged me $450 dollars. WTF. They claimed the chain needed cleaning and lubrication as well. (For $200 I could have purchased a new chain) What else apart from change the oil/filter did they do as part of that service that cost so much?

Ducati owners in Australia are really getting ripped off.

This forum has certainly opened my eyes to all the problems that the bike has and when I talk to the 2 dealers in Melbourne, they both say that problems will only be fixed when they occur, but I want the Dash Loom replaced before warranty runs out, so I din't have to pay big bucks to get it fixed later. They wont sell me a modified loom either.

Grrr....

I bet if you knew about it before you bought the bike, you would've bought the BMW instead.

The S1000rr has a ...... location for their oil filter too....not as bad as the pani though. The location for the pani is perfect....just that damn cover design is dumb.

Honestly the new gen zx10r has the best placement for an oil filter. Screw in type. Right at the bottom BELOW the header pipes. You can even change it without taking the fairing off.

Dont' worry I still love the panigale more that other bikes I have had....

If you look toward the front bottom of engine the oil filter spins of very easily. No oil mess when servicing clutch. And belt tension and condition checked in a matter of seconds. Fairing doesn't get in the way. This is a proper Ducati engine after all. :D
