New Jersey Shore
Hi all! I'm a new Ducati owner and looking to acquaint myself with some fellow Ducati owner. Currently I'm riding a 2012 Multistrada Touring I just bought last month but then a few days ago I saw the 2013 Panigale Announcement and was stoked to find it was being made available in Arctic White.
Heres the story of how I went from riding a ___________ (insert mouth full of adjectives) Honda Shadow 750 Cruiser to the finest piece of machinery, and beast I've ever laid eyes on. I started in the two-wheeled community at 14 (I'm currently 19, full time career, salaried, Jersey Shore boy, no Im not like those .........s on that show) riding dirt bikes. For my 17th birthday I took my years worth of savings from pumping gas and spent $4,000 and bought my first motorcycle, a Blue 2007 Honda Shadow 750 and felt like I was the king of the world; I mean hey I was 17 and had my own bike that I paid for with my hard earned money, man did I smile! So for the past two years I had greatly enjoyed riding a cruiser until this past August my friend since the second grade said he was getting a "Ducati."
So just before this September he calls me and says lets go for a ride up to Cross Country BMW/Ducati in Metuchen NJ. Not-so-excitedly I said okay; not knowing what was in store for me I quickly threw on some beatup clothes and met with him on the parkway. We got there and I was shocked! Red Red RED! Corvette red as I thought because the Ducati red seemed identical to the red all of my fathers Corvettes have been. Well, long story short that day my buddy (with his parents help on the downpayment, cosigner, etc) sign for his brand new 2012 Panigale. We rode home, him on his new bike, and me on his moms Kawasaki Mean Streak 1600 he rode up there (we would pickup my bike later). Over the next few days that bit of teenage jealousy began raging inside me. I needed to have one! But I wasn't a fan of being slouched over a gas tank and thought it was very uncomfortable, and furthermore just dangerous. Not only the aesthetics of the bike but could I realy buy the same bike my friend did? What would people think two similar guys driving exactly the same, Red 1199's? I thought people would talk some s**t. So we went up and I test-rode the multistrada. Wow. Comfort, and crazy speed- I was in heaven. For the next week I tried everything to sell my Honda and after 6 days of 50+ ........ Craigslist offers of "Ill give you $2,000 cash right now," I had had enough.
I had about $10,000 down total, with my trade in plus cash the next part was a loan. I'm just 19- a few credit card, low limits, but a perfect paying record. The trick was financing That stalled for over a week this deal from happening until I got a call from my salesman, Al telling me to come on up! Sign some papers and get my new bike! While I had no credit, the bank must've seen a 19 year old bringing in $30,000+ a year must be doing something right. I know it isnt millions but I know people with bachelors degrees making elss, sadly. In just over a month I've put 3,000 miles on my Multistrada, a couple trips <200 miles and loved every minute of it. I've always been a speed man and I've achieved a couple runs at a displayed 156mph, and one recently at 157mph and damn what a BLAST! I read somewhere the Multi tops out at 145? That don't sound right! Or my speedo is lying to me! (Those speeds where done in a lawful area, not violating any state, or local speed laws, just saying).
Then a couple days ago I'm searching for some carbon fiber bodywork for my bike and come across a White Panigale being advertised on my sidebar. Out of curiosity I click and there it is "2013 Panigale being offered in Chilly Arctic White." I had fallen in love all over again. I immediately went back to CC Ducati to good 'ol Al and told him the situation, put a deposit on a White 2013 Panigale S ABS. Sure Im taking a hell of a hit on depreciation when I trade in my Multi but hey, money is money- it is meant to be spent.
What I am getting at here is does anyone know when these beautiful 2013 1199's may start showing up on showroom floors? One person said "oh maybe a month or so." So I am just curious? I don't know if Ducati keeps release dates hidden like Apple does with their "new" products.....
Im still riding, and loving every moment with my Multistrada. I know I will miss it, the comfort, the four riding modes, the nice high off the ground seat. My bike is my only vehicle- my daily driver as I sold my car months ago sick of paying $4.50 for a gallon of gas and helping some scummy oil executives get rich off my sub 20mpg car.
I should've added somewhere in there too I have about 500 miles on my buddy's Panigale under my belt. He and I switched bikes for a week and found myself hard-pressed to pick which bike I liked more.
Anyway, I look forward to being a productive member of this great community! And all- If you're in the New Jersey/Tri-State Area and looking to add another bike to the pack I'm almost always open. I'm in the shore area in Monmouth County.
