On the leg out thing, Rossi said once that he does it to stop the bike from backing in. I think he was the first to do it so maybe that's it, or maybe he was just saying that to throw other people off. Either way I've never tried it on track and don't intend to until I understand the true principal at work.
I believe that was his initial explanation. Later on he was asked the same question and he stated it had no advantage at all. He did it during practice for the first time and noticed it didn't make him lose any time at all. He kept doing it so others would copy him and hopefully would lose some time .
I'm not sure what to believe but I love it when I see people doing it on a trackday. I nearly pmsl when I pass them again as they can't control the bike properly entering the corner
