Nice riding .I'm glad the leg waving is for laugh . Reminds me I need to get some balls back and get back to the track .
That 600 sounded cool.

I meant just in modern MotoGP, not in all of motorcycling.

I don't remember leg waving 2 years ago in MotoGP? Someone had to start this trend.

It was definitely happening before then. All the front runners were doing it by 2008 or 2009. The first time I saw it in the modern era was when Rossi punted Gibernau at the final corner in Jerez in 2005.

Schwantz and Rainey did it every once in a while during their day. Which would make sense given their flattrack backgrounds. I think it's commonplace now as riders are cross training more with flattrack than they used to.

In motorcross and even mountain biking, it seemed handy to keep all your leg weight on the outside peg, with the inside leg off you didn't weight the inside and cause the bike to slide more. And you had more weight forward with your leg extended. And it seemed smoother with a large chunk of ourselfs just floating in the air. Easier to get shoulders forward and down smoothly. But we stayed on top of the bike, unlike sportbike racing.

No idea what it does in motoGP???

Can I leg wave at Harleys instead of my hand??? They can't figure out what hand on the helmet means, so would I just confuse them?

Simon Crafar talks about it in his Motovudo books and video. He says riders can let their inside leg hang to counteract the rear of the bike wanting to swing out during hard breaking/corner entry. He mentioned that before entering the corner your weight is shifted to the side of the bike (right of left depending on direction of corner) so that will make the rear want to step out in the opposite direction under hard braking and as you lean into the corner. A leg dangling is at least 50 lbs hanging off the bike opposite the direction the rear wants to step out.

That sort of makes sense to me, but if you look at Marc he still likes to back the bike into the corner even with his leg hanging. Not to mention, Lorenzo doesn't let his leg hang and he has the most in-line riding style of any GP rider at the moment.
