What am I missing?

Am I the only one that thinks it "just" sounds like an 1199 sporting Akras without the baffles?

While I'm completely stoked to pick up my SL and am surely victim to a fair number of delusional/hypothetical "differences" between it and the R/S/base, I too am having a hard time differentiating the sound from this video versus any 1199 sporting akras sans baffles.

If the video showed rev'ing to the redline then maybe we could witness the benefit of ti rods and and wind up speed, etc. However, even for that you'd surely need a side-by-side comparison and a blind evaluation.

Sluuurpppp

Hate to say it but that sweet bike sounds like any other 1199 with Termi slips on it. Certainly sounds alike to my Tri and as someone stated above, without the extra 35k!

IMHO I'd like to say (from a european point of view) that every Pani sounds fantastic! I ordered an SL but I really give a damn how she sounds. That's because Ducati is - to my knowlegde - the only brand left that cares about sound. Every other brand tends nowadays to be politicaly correct.

I am driving motorcycles now since 1987. And my beloved Tri 2012 is by far the loudest, coolest sounding legal bike I ever had! I guess no one can imagine the efforts for Ducati engineers to find loopholes in EU legeal laws and implement this on a new bike. They even managed to create this silly Jap edition exhaust system. Tell me, which other brand put so much effort into really cool emotional sound?

If the SL sounds as cool as the standard Pani (and I am pretty sure about that=, I am already super-duper-happy!

We mostly agree. However the title for best sound goes to MV Agusta in my opinion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-Rnaa5HZ0Q

I have to disagree, sorry...
I've got a MV F4, rode the new Rivale and heard the Brutale 800 Dragster. As long as you stick to the original exhaust, MV cannot hold this candle to Ducati :)
I put Sihl and later on Ti Bodis exhausts onto my MV. Crazy cool sound! But I'd lost my license for 3 months because of this.

All my neigbors hate me, and really try to drive home at night as quietly as possible, but still everybody knows when I'm home. It's one of the things I love about this bike: having a big grin on my face telling the police officer "hey, it's legal!" :))))

You need to move, too many Füdlibürger in your area.

When I get home, folks down the street hop in their cars and come to my house to look at the bike. But this might be related to me offering free beer, lol.

That doesn't sound one bit like a bike with termis on it. We've had a few 1199s side by side with termi slips, full exhaust, and the akra. The akra sounds nothing like the others in person.

I was under the impression that the SL came with a full Akra system but that's not the case... it is pretty much slip ons..

I hope the headers that come with the bike are good to use with the slip-on kit that comes in the racing kit crate to give it the same performance level as a full Akra system.

Interesting. I was under that impression as well.

Does this infer Akra slips will be available to us mere mortals???

If you guys notice the part I have circled in red in the attached pic of the kit, it appears to be the splitter piece that connects to the main header pipe which then bifurcates the gases to each silencer piece..

If it was a full system, the size of the crate would be a lot bigger as the header pipe would need to be a part of the parts along with a lot of other stuff like the valve motor etc..

If Ducati does provide this slip on Akra kit for direct purchase as an accessory instead of getting them aftermarket, everyone with a Pani will jump on it at the blink of any eye :D.

Since Ducati owns Termignoni I am not sure if that will happen but seeing the money they will make due to the lust people have for Akra due to its proven performance record and kickass sound, its a no-brainer to release it as an accessory into the market and it will be a downright sellout.

The other question is the up-map as the SL would have a special one due to the sophisticated engine parts but only time will tell if they will have specific maps designed for the regular 1199 models. Even if they don't, Rexxer/power commander/ dyno tuning are always options that experts here know a lot about ;)

Ducati gets the attention due to sheer volume of sound, stock for stock. It is at least 3dB louder than the F4. The attention is drawn by that loudness. The MV on the other hand, is music to the ears, albeit quieter. That Superlegerra definitely has a thundering note all its own, above the Termis in sophistication and meaner sounding in general. IMO YMMV

How do I get a video on here? I am sure my Tri with CW slip on sounds just as good. :D
By end of business on Wednesday she will have her liberated and ceramic coated set of full Termignonis back and she will by then sound better I am sure. :D
