Loose bolts

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I always pick up a few extra bolts every time I visit the dealer. Have quite an extensive collection - they all seem to get used. There is no one spot on the bike where I have not had a loose or missing bolt. The valve covers are a particular annoyance - finally got Phil's solution and hope the annoying oil seepage will disappear.

Good idea to clean the bike weekly and check the main offenders..

Stupid question ? But how do you guys check your bolts for tightnesss?
If the bolt is not lose and it's at the correct torque one cannot simply just turn it with a spaner a few degrees to confirm its tight, that will defeat the object of the desired torque value? Do you then first loosen and then re torque? And if so then in parts that are gasket surfaces there will be a sequence to re tighten, or am I missing something here. Of course fiddling there will compromise the seal say on clutch covers and tapped covers, just my thinking.

You just check for looseness and mark with paint marker.
Don't need to undo and then re torque unless you are going to add loctite to bolts.
