Lots of Headshake, whats the problem?

Back to life...

I sold my base to a friend whom is having the same issue. He reports a headshake like issue at 140+. Same problem I was having.

We're going to try and add a little trail. I am convinced the new Cups are a different height than the Supercorsas, however there is no way to tell. I suppose I could measure my stock Supercorsas compared to his cups.

Anyways, we will probably add some front trail. Can this be accomplished by lowering the forks deeper into the triples? I say we start at 3mm deeper in than stock.

Or should be adjust the rear shock length?

Anybody have any insight?

Have you taken into account the lighter tire might be doing this? You might need to lengthen your wheelbase or change your rake. And I'm only making educated guesses. I ran these and noticed it too. I didn't mess with the forks. I got the 41 sprocket and adjusted the shock length. I also wheelie less and can apply more throttle while maintaining control.

Thanks. What exactly did you do? We're not going to do the 41T mod at the moment.

Adding some trail in the front apparently adds stability. Im hoping that will help him.

I lengthened it about 5mm or so IIRC. If you haven't messed with yours measure it and tell me your measuring points and I can go get a reading. (I'd also like to know as I didn't measure mine stock.)

What info do you have on the trail? I have a teensy bit during hard accel (somewhat expected) and would like to dial it out.

I would think you shortened the rear shock? Lengthening it I believe would decrease stability, quickening turn in, by adding rear height. Decreasing rear height would add trail to the front, adding stability.

I think the rear tire is taller than the stock Supercorsa, hence these issues. Its that or the front tire is much smaller, of course.

EDIT: I can get my stock shock length for you if you want. We're dealing with a base bike in this instance, but I have access to both stock base and S if you would like me to get them.

You still trying to get setup info from these bunch of morons?

J/K

You definitely need professional help. I suggest sending Dave Moss $20 via PayPal and asking him: Feel The Track | Ensure your bike geometry, spring rates, hydraulic damping and tire size/compounds are in sync, [email protected] (PayPal email is [email protected])

I'm pretty sure he's setup some Panigale's and even if he hasn't could certainly give you solid advice on what to try and in what order.

My only contribution is that I have a base, and swapped out the OEM non-adjustable steering damper for a Bitubo gas-charged adjustable. On setting 6 of 18, the steering feels almost lighter than OEM but the headshakes I got here and there are gone. I haven't been to the track yet but some hard riding and acceleration out of slow corners in the mountains have been shimmy free. I would think any adjustable (Ohlins, Bitubo, Matris, etc.) would be an improvement. Of course steering dampers can mask other setup issues but once you get the bike steering well both on the gas and on the brakes, a steering damper adjustment can add that right amount of stability.

Good luck!

Well this tire option is about 1 of 3 at the moment, so I'm trying to get it sorted out for the benefit of the community. This thread hasn't turned into a dick measuring contest (yet), so we're ahead of the curve here.

Anyways, thanks for the advice. If I can't sort it out on my own, I'll shoot him an email.

And thanks for the backhanded insult Jeff, I was only sharing my experiences.

Did you not see the j/k (just kidding) in my post? Wasn't directed to you at all, you are actually one of the few on here that seem to have some experience based on the posts I've read. The joke was that the OP started looking on here a while back and unfortunately never got the problem solved, and now the poor friend that bought his bike is chasing the same problem.

Kudos to EvoL for looking out for his buddy and trying to solve his problem.

Sorry man, with all the sarcasm on here my radar isn't working very well anymore.

Evol, I will take you up on your offer for the stock shock length (eye to eye) on a base. Thanks in advance.

Can you get an S measurement anyway? I'd like to double check.

I will get both for you guys.

How about I measure exposed threads on the adjustment side. I am not sure but I think shock preload setting will effect shock length. In that case, everyones would be different.

Ill try and get both measurements, on both bikes.
