Major Coolant Leak Panigale R from hole near thermostat

My coolant leak, despite having ALL of the symptoms of a blown pump, just ended up being a split hose. Still, it was between the cylinders and under the air box, so it is not something that is easily accessed.
That's about the best news you could hope for, I would think.

Cheers.

Yes; it was, regardless of it being covered under the extended warranty.

And, my dealer took care of me. Ducati took their time sending parts from Italy and so the dealer took the parts off of another bike on the showroom floor to fix mine, doubling the labor required to fix it. As you may know, warranty work is pretty tight on what they allow for labor, and so the fact that my dealer doubled the labor they put into the fix just so I could get to my (non-refundable) track-day says a lot about them.

Looks like i'm part of the failed waterpump club now. 6,000 miles and weep hole is blowing coolant. Extended warrantee is covering it. Bike had been bulletproof up to this point.

When brand new my Pani R had a small weep at the hole. It has not some back since the 1st service. I have extended warranty on standby as well . You never know with these Ducs

I am almost at my 15,000 miles mark and ive done two water pump swaps. All under warranty thankfully ;)

Yep. My 1299S was running really hot at Road Atlanta this summer at Cycle Jam. I've already posted about my problem but the motor was so hot when I came in, it smelled like burning hair. Prior to Road Atlanta, it had weeped coolant. It was my water pump/water pump seal. I like what lardawge said and yes, your water pump is screwed. My 1299S is a 2015 model. I have maybe 900 miles on her. Even though it was a pain in the butt, I still love my Duc .

If she's weeping, get ready for a water pump. Peace. Highside49

Just out of curiosity, how many guys who have had pump issues have seen temps of 220 (104c) on a regular basis?

Both mine we're probably around then. It usually happens when it's 90+F out and hard riding. Engine goes up to around 220-ish. I'll notice a dribble out the weep hole. It's only happened to my twice so far. I'm holding the water pump record in my dealership. Lol

fan come on at 217F or so. I don't see a problem hovering at 220 in stuck traffic when its 80F ambient or higher. In motion though, it should not be at fan activation temperature, in my opinion. looks like the water pump is a weak design or quality, although my first 1199 had not pump issues for the 18.5K miles I owned.

That was what I was fishing for. I see 190-192 on an 80 degree day stopped. I really think the seals in these pumps are not very well suited to what Ducati feels is a normal temp. 220 on these bikes and your going to see cooling system failures. The fan issue is twofold. One it comes on too late. Two by the time it does kick on, you have heat soaked the motor and unless you get air flowing over the upper core, that thinks is going to continue to cook regardless of the fan. This thing was built and tested in Italy. Take a truck full of these things to Arizona in July and tell me how many dont go home on a trailer.

Do the shops test the function of the radiator cap or has anyone asked the question when a WP replacement was made?

New water pump on. $850. Upside? No leaking, and the entire assembly and hose(size/routing)appears quite different. I take that as a design change, and recognition by Ducati that original setup needed improvement. Fingers crossed.....time will tell.

Water pump is located on right side under the magnesium cover, not connected to any hoses, only to the engine housing. You can't see it under the cover...

On opposide side, there is the thermostat housing (black plastic) with hoses connected to it.

What is different now?
