Marzocchi Forks - Travel

They are longer and larger diameter than Ohlins fork springs. When I get a chance, I'll measure them and send to Race Tech to see if they have any springs of that size.

During the install of my Ohlins NIX30 fork cartridges today ...

Jarel, do you recommend the NIX30 over the TTX25 cartridges? Do each have their own advantages or specific purpose? (Perhaps depending on rider weight or Track/Road/Riding style)

Cheers,

Tom

Here's the internal cartridge out of the Marzocchi fork:

MarzocchiCartridge.jpg

It's sealed, so unfortunately you can't tell much about how it works, and there is no information available from Ducati or Marzocchi about how to take it apart safely, so I'm not going to try! That black portion at the bottom is sort of a rubber bladder type of thing, really odd!

What are u going to do with the oem cartridges? I would like to see if we could do a piston swap and valving

Jarel,
You can send me a bill for RandD but I have two questions for you.:)

1. What bottoms out the fork, the cartridge or does the cap hit the top of the slider?

2. With the stock cartridge out as you have in the pic. If you leave the rebound adjuster screwed in the top of the damping rod and compress is, does the bladder move?

Thanks and I look forward to riding with you again some day, it has been too long!

1. - The cartridge bottoms, there's actually 33mm of fork travel left at that point which is unused because the cartridge bottoms.

2. - Not sure, but I can send you one of the cartridges to play around with if you want, there just sitting on a shelf collecting dust, let me know if you want me to.

Yes, you guys need to come over to MAM to ride with us this year! ;)

Aww man, I hate when they do that! It really makes no sense to me.

Where does your Ohlins kit bottom out at? Sorry if I missed the piece of info already.

I think this summer we need to get out there. Does Clayton still ride with you guys?

Actually, I retract my statement, now that I look at it again the fork tube looks like it has 33mm of travel left in it, but the fork itself is bottoming internally at that point, it's not the cartridge that stops it. So even with the Ohlins cartridges, there's still 33mm of unused fork tube.

Yeah, he's still around at most of the track days, although we've disowned him because he's riding an Aprilia now! Ha ha! ;)

This is the stock spring 1.0kg in the S fork so is apples to oranges, but I would like to have all the travel in the Marzocchi so I don't end up on my head.

I could add compression and/or preload but the fork in this pic felt great.

Yeah, looks like you're about to have a "YouTube Moment" there with the forks bottomed! ;)

I am on the opposite end of the spectrum. Got a zip tie on the Marzocchi, I still got almost 4" on the inner tube unused, take out the 33mm, still got 2.5" left, theoratically. So out of 4.7" max travel, I am using up only 1/2. Need to drop down to .95 or .90, still can't find anyone that carries the spring though.

Put in an order at hardracing.com, they are ordering the springs directly from factory. going with .90 for my skinny arse.

Orderding directly from which factory? Marzocchi?

From Ohlins. Sales rep checked and OEM replacement for Marzocchi are available in Europe, they haven't made it to the USA yet, probably a lack of demand.

The Marzocchi site has the new pressurized 50mm fork up on there site, but no manual. From the parts diagram of the 06 50mm fork manual, it's slightly different from the parts diagram on the 1199 catalog, particularly the preload spacer. Gathering all the tools and parts, we'll find out soon enough. If swapping the spring won't cut it, Ohlins cartridge here I come.
