Went to an event at my stealership and saw the matte black 1199 and the 899. Im not a black bike guy but it did look very nice but why on earth are the lower fairings in gloss black totally ruins the bike. i can see the desire and want for the matte black but ducati just killed it with the lower fairings.

Humm,, yeah thats weird. IF they are going that route should have just kept it one color all matt or gloss.

The lower fairing is the one to most likely get more dirty from debris, mud and water splashing and having gloss on there doesn't make sense to me either..

this is probably the exact reason why. so you can clean it. you can't rub too much on a matte finish or you end up polishing out the matte. not saying it looks good, but it seems functional.

Interesting point..

I was under the impression that the gloss is more prone to scratches when cleaning.. maybe I am wrong on this

Are you certain it wasn't an aftermarket modification made by your dealer? I don't see any color differentiation in these examples:

positive even the sales person said maybe its cause of the heat everyone there commented on how stupid it looks. go see it in person and you tell me if you notice it.

Scratches come from improper cleaning methods no matter what the finish.

Matte finishes require specific care. No waxing or buffing, etc. The matte is in the clearcoat, not the paint.

next time i am there i will take pictures. maybe its something they did i doubt it though

It's called cost savings. They pulled the same garbage with the black 1098 S's. The lower fairings were unpainted plastic.
