Misfire at idle?

Edit: Crap! Posted in the wrong forum. If a moderator would be so kind as to move to Technical, I'd appreciate it.

My bike has been occasionally misfiring a little at idle, as well as occasionally holding high RPMs (also at idle, but only after riding, never at startup).

Bike is fine cold, but then after 1-2 min:

Panigale Misfire? at Idle - YouTube

Been to two different Ducati dealers and so far nothing.....no codes are thrown, everything seems to be fine, only it's not.

Mine does that all the time, exact same sound. Got more prominent after the upmap this spring.

Just a little afterfire caused by the idle mixture being a tad rich. My Hypermotard did it all the time, no worry!

Bet ya it runs just fine with the throttle wide open;)

Yes, it does run fine WOT. Happy I'm not the only one. But with ride by wire and a pukka ECU the bike should know it's at idle....perhaps O2 sensor is mucked up? Sounds like .... and the bike does stall under partial throttle (and sometimes at idle). Not sure if any symptoms are being caused by the same thing. Bike is at MotoCorsa, and they've been pretty spectacular to work with so far. Stay tuned, should have more info tomorrow.

maybe an exhaust issue, broken weld or something. almost sounds like pressure builds and metal to metal slapping sound.

Simple solution Anti ......

I reckon DNA should pony up for you ;)

Very true!

Either that or you do what I did to "fix" the smoke issue: Only start your engine once you're seated and plop it in gear and ride off immediately. That idling business is not good anyways.:D

FWIW, a BMW dealer told me that the ECU doesn't take input from O2 sensors when engine is cold, or at idle.

Correct.
The system runs open loop up to about 80-85 degrees C

Maybe your exhaust butterfly valve is having an issue? It sounds similar to that when you manually close the valve. When I was putting on my Termi headers I played with the servo trying to remove it, and when it slapped open it sounded just like that.

there is an alternative. loud and quiet in the making... :D nuff said.

i think the interferences come from the design of the headers, with the pressures building up and "colliding" at different rpms...

down low they don't need to be "synchronized" thus the weird sound?
up high, they're leveled???

maybe? just thoughts...

Mine is disconnected with the servo in the bin. The spring on it is quite strong, don't think it would budge on idle*.

I never warm the bike up at idle, except for that video, which I made to test whether or not it would happen just idling (normally it happens after a long ride). Throttle bodies were reset, gear indicator was reset, exhaust is new.

I've never changed my plugs, but the dealer did during the 15k service (I would hope!).

I'll be disconnecting the servo next, but I've never had issues with it and it runs through it's servo sounds perfectly each time I turn the ignition. Never know....

Agreed, but his problem comes after some riding ,thereafter the idling is high with some misfire...

I would assume the O2 sensor (with the inbuilt heater (4 wire) ) is already up and running with close-loop...

This happens to my bike too, as some has said, a little rich with post ignition in the exhaust.

maybe run your finger around the exhaust exit (at cold!!),to check for soot built-up...?

Did you happen to fix this issue? My bike is has the same symptoms. When I am on throttle the bike sounds and runs great, when when I am at a stop light the RPM drops slowly until it dies.

AntiHero

Did you ever figure out what the issue was? My 12 Ducati 1199 has the same issue that you are having.

Justin
