If you don't yet know who Baron von Grumble (on youtube) is, do yourself a favor and check out his channel.

And in other news: I'm starting a youtube channel of my own, where I ride around Southern California and talk about BS, and legal issues (they're often, but not always, the same).

Question for you: when watching from a motorcyclist's helmet-cam point of view, would you rather see

1. Nothing but the road before you, centered roughly where you would see it all if you were looking out of the visor of your own bike; or
2. Tons of road, with only a tiny amount of horizon showing, but also the bike's dash and windscreen?

Thanks for the input!

....and I think I just realized this belongs in another subforum. Sorry about the lack of foresight. :/

Helmet cams are boring!

It
Needs dashes, body motion, horizons, sunsets, eagles, sharks,...

Avoid: straights , city traffic, deer, horses , squids,...

I'll have what you're having!

LOL @ squids

Luke: I'm getting into the Moto Vlogging thing as well. I've been watching Shawn Smoak, ChaseOnTwoWheels, Jake TheGardenSnake among others to get a feeling for what works. For me, I like to see more of where the vlogger is riding along with the top part of the bike to see a bit of the gauges (like to see rev's and speed). What I don't like is a large intrusion of the helmet from the side-mount. I have a bit of that in mine and getting rid of it by mounting the camera a bit further off the side.

I've also just purchased a Sena Bluetooth unit so that I can take the camera off the helmet and mount it to the bike. I am anxious to see what those angles look like and how the sound is at speed.

I'm TOTALLY with you on the side-cam issues. I know it's tidier, but it's so distracting to see the helmet in every frame.

As for top mount, everything is centered, no helmet shows, and you can see better over cars. You look like a teletubby, but I'm okay with that. Only thing with the top mount is that, to get the dash in the shot, one must tilt the angle down until it's almost all road showing. Ugh.

Best thing I've seen so far is a chin mount. Centered, with no helmet showing, and you can see the dash. Only problem is, I bought a Drift Ghost HD instead of a GoPro, and chin mount is not an option unless I change rigs (sigh).

On the plus side, not being able to see my dash in my vids might keep me out of jail ;)
