Miles better has to be "just a slight exaggeration" my 1199R is just incredible, think
short of being a pro racer few could exploit the new upgrades over last years model.
Smoother easier to live with aside.

I agree that most people's skill will not let them fully exploit all the new bike has to offer but 2.5 seconds a lap faster then the 1199 might as well be miles ahead in racing or in the hands of someone that can exploit it.

I agree. However, much like a dyno run, if it is not tested back to back under the same conditions then it is pretty much useless. Too many variables to consider, especially the lapsed time since he rode the 1199. You really need to test the 1199 and 1299 back to back on the same rubber and then compare.

Anyhoo, I dont think I have ever read a review of a new model that didn't make the outgoing model seem like "sloppy seconds"! LOL. It is in the industry's best interest to support itself that way. Although I'm sure the new 1299 is a ripper and in no way am I downplaying the advances, you have to take reviews with a grain of salt.

Everyone said the same about the 1199 back in 2011/2012 when they were first getting samples provided for reviews, while getting flown to distant racetracks in exotic lands.

Its such a self liking ice cream cone...

Exactly what rhetoric is. Persuasive writing to sell sell sell.

Agreed, the new bike is probably a hair better, and as the rider stated, he never really got into any of the new electronic aids.

2015 Ducati 1299 Panigale First Ride Review

I really enjoyed reading this review, It sounds like it is miles ahead of the 1199. Sounds like Ducati has a WINNER.

Yea with my mods I've done to my 1199, it's comparable in power and handling to 1299S but done cheaper. It'd be nice to see a head to head comparison at the same time with same tires. I wouldn't characterize it as miles ahead though. Maybe I'll see one at my next track day haha. :D

Rhetoric works both ways, the ones who own the outgoing model will work it in reverse to justify themselves and so on..Both are great bikes....Enjoy the track I know I do!

Less one thing. We are not providing any rhetorical based interpretation of our opinion.

Not one person has tried to persuade you that a 1199 is a better bike.

Your opinion is fine, the 1299 is better and sweet, you just stepped in it by making a unsubstantiated claim that the new bike which has only evolved slightly forward, is miles ahead of he 1199.

Lap times-wise, the two won't be miles apart. But anyone who's ridden a Base or S and then an R (or an R and then an SL) will say that, though lap times might be pretty similar, one bike feels far more than marginally better. For those who don't have a WSBK race-license, qualitative experience matters far more than quantitative--and for those who do get a chance to ride or own a 1299, I have no doubt they'll consider it a radically different bike. Hell, anyone who's had a professional suspension tuner set their bike at a track can attest to how vastly different their bike is once it's been massaged a little--and that's 5 minutes of work and no new parts. Imagine what all kinds of new parts + over a year of Ducati's top engineers working on the bike could do.

I think the main point to take away from this is that everything that has been changed for 2015 is better than it was in 2014, they haven't gone "backwards" in any area, which is not always the case for new models. In this case with the 1299S vs. 1199S we get some significant improvements such as more HP, more torque, better aerodynamics, better electronics, downshift blipper, event-based suspension, etc. That's a LOT of new stuff in a new model. Add those up and if anyone ever went SLOWER around the track on the 1299 than they did on an 1199, we would all say it's clearly not the bike's fault. And some who can take advantage of the power and electronics should clearly go faster on the 1299, probably quite a bit faster. Anyone who's gotten to ride an SL around the track can attest to the evolution of the electronics being an improvement, and the new 2015 bikes take that up another notch with with more features and the addition of the IMU sensor.

which is it guys reviews matter or they dont cant have it both ways on the magazine issue. oh i get it good review ducati great lose shootout reviews dont matter

Quite simply nailed with that statement.
