Motorcycle runs into cyclist

You can't really see it in the video (or any of these), but once you ride it you'll know why. Its tricky because not only is it an uphill turn to the left, but where you're suppose to bring the bike up, the road camber changes and falls away there. its more significant than you think and if you're not steady on the throttle and give it any sort of throttle (for instance like trying to show off to the camera's) there, its very easy to lose traction. traction control can save your ... there.

This guy obviously wasn't that good a rider, took the turn and looks like lost a bit of traction there and tried to right the bike up which took him striaght into the bikers. Glad no one looked seriously injured.

do speed limits apply to motorcycles?! wtf?

:D

is it wrong that i love watching that video over and over? i mean, knowing no one got seriously injured, isn't it somehow great to watch cyclists get knocked over? (i say this as someone who is constantly forced to go on family bicycle tours... and i'm shouting the whole time, ``why don't we get real bikes?'')

I hate cyclist, I don't mind them until I go to Florida and as someone else said, don't stop for lights/signs and force me to swing over in the lane.

I've watched the beginning about five times now. No way was he losing traction or even close to running out of lean. Plain and simply the guy has not learned the basic skills that several of you have pointed out. The fact that he stood it up right as he was nearly at them says he came around the curve, was surprised to see them there and fixated on them.

Changing your visual focus is something that you have to learn to control. It's easy to catch yourself look at the wrong spot, but but most of us that have made it this far here on the Panigale forum have likely learned to simply re focus when we feel we are starting to drift wide.

Kinda like posters losing focus on a thread :D

OMG, this video was just shown on the Today Show! Then she added "it seems people are putting these GoPro cameras on their bycycles and motorcycles catching these kind of things" lol

they are showing it on the local news here in Los Angeles today as well, and they are interviewing bicyclists to get their reaction.

it is crazy how many people ride the freeways and canyons with the go pro cameras on their helmets, i see people walking down Hollywood Blvd wearing them on their heads and chests several times a day.

I guess EVERYTHING must be documented now

I don't go that far. I set it up in my truck on long trips, on my bike, and on my helmet when I'm doing something cool for work...

Look at this guy being a trend setter:

FYI, cops will be up there in full force this weekend. Don't ask me how I know....

Made Good Morning America, too. Just what motorcyclists need....more negative publicity. Soon all of the decent roads near urban areas will be unrideable due to crap like this.

Sandia Crest Road near Albuquerque used to be a nice quiet road. A few park goers...a couple of bicyclists, and TONS of motorcyclists. Now, it's lots of park goers, TONS of bicyclists, and tons of motorcyclists.....and Bernalillo County Sheriff's Deputies.

The bicyclists are quite militant. I've seen them kick at passing motorcycles. They constantly wave with a "slow down" motion, and occasionally the "#1" signal...generally administered with the middle finger. They often intentionally spread across a traffic lane when they hear motorcycles coming. They exceed the speed limits heavily on their downward passage, yet they call the Sheriff's department at the slightest offense from motorcyclists....and they get pissy when you mention that a bit of courtesy might make things better for everyone.

The double standard they expect is maddening to me.

All that said, it sucks to be the two innocent cyclists who were hit....riding courteously, single file on the shoulder. I hope the motorcyclist was ticketed and is held financially responsible for his actions.

Agree about the bicyclist whole heartedly. Here in LA we have this big political campaign to make room for the bicycles and be courteos to the bicycles. Its gotten to the point where they've become defiant and almost dare you to hit them. I've been forced into the other lane numerous times because of groups of them that refuse to ride to the right out of the traffic lanes. Sorry, I like bicycles and if I didn't live in LA I would probably ride one but it just erks me that somehow they've become the politically correct form of transportation and motorcycles are being more and more scrutinized. This latest incident will not help.

The tow company towing the motorcycle is the official police garage towing company in that area. This suggests that the rider was riding without a motorcycle endorsement and/or no license at all. Otherwise, the vehicle would be left to be cared for by the rider, barring its not blocking traffic or causing some other hazard. If thats the case, the rider would have been cited with a misdemeanor and the bike would be impounded for 30 days. And if true, it means the bicyclist could have a very good civil liability case against the rider.
