Gentlemen:

My Ducati dealer is also a MV dealer and MV had their dealer show this week and finally provided details on their SL competitor that they are making to participate for SBK homologation.

I LOVE the way it looks (see pic) & here are the specs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfkYh3WcxeY&feature=youtu.be

Only 250 are being made for the world, with only ten of those coming to the U.S this year and another 750 next year.

Weighs just 385lbs, has 210 HP and comes with street and race (full ti) exhaust and ECUs. Exhaust is by Termi.

All carbon fiber body work, magnesium engine covers, Abs, wheelie control, traction control up/down shift...etc.

I believe it also similar brembo's to the SL. Not sure on the wheels thou.

Price $46K

I've been doing research on trying to get my HP4 lower in weight, as I love the inline 4, but this has me tempted to let my baby go and get this instead....

The amount of money I have to spend to get to a HP4 to 385lbs is probably not worth it. So, I am thinking really hard about this.

Tell me what you guys know about MV's... I've never ridden a F4 only F3 & I did like the F3.

Thoughts?

That is beautiful. Man, you garage is gonna need to be insured for a pretty penny lol. I love the way the MV's look. Still way out of my price range lol.

I am NEVER TELLING ANY OF YOU, where I live...lol.

With trading in my HP4, it wouldn't be that bad.... I hate to let her go thou.

I am going to look at F4RR tonight to get a feel for them. Too cold to ride here still.

I had a F4 1000 right after my 999R, I did like the MV (also had a Brutale 750) more top-end than the 999R, good sharp handling, but a little harsh, but overall I missed that 999
That MV looks great, can't believe you would be disappointed

Deciding factor for me would be how far back to the dealership.

I would expect to make service visits.

Tell me more...... I am not super familiar with the brand.

I still have my first MV F4, bought in 2001. Top quality. But there where some mechanical problems that have mostly been solved during time. The automatic chain tensioner and the rear wheel hub became a real problem on a lot of bikes. New bikes have these issues hopefully solved.

There are three things that stop me from buying another MV, especially an F3:

1) Customer support and service is totally ...... in Switzerland

2) Electronics are still a big issue on the new F3s and F4s. Updating the mapping 8 times in one year is ridiculous. There were burnt cables in the wiring harness, and as solution they do not replace it under warranty but they tell the mechanic to splice it.

3) A couple of years ago MV realized that they simply were too expensive and started to lower production costs. Unfortunately the made the bikes too cheap from an engineers point of view (personal opinion).

MV kinda use their customers as live road testers, as they just don't seem to uncover the everyday issues in the development and testing cycle.

Melting fairings and heat shields (proper, not like a little 1199 spot), melting CF exhaust tips, seizing hubs, very poor fuelling, batteries. The list unfortunately goes on.

Good place to sample the ownership experience is here ->

Read it and weep.... I do, every time I think how much I want one

So very sad, as the bikes are probably the most beautiful 2-wheeled that exist, combined with their racing heritage and pedigree.

I'm filling up and going all teary :p

Thank you both for the excellent information. Appreciate the input. I've just started to spend some time on the MV forum.

This would not be an everyday bike for me, but I would definitely track in once or twice a year to run her in. If I can't do that, there's not point in getting one.

I am very close to my MV dealer & I have to say my Ducati/MV dealer is probably the best in customer service, I have every had. Definitely the best.

I fear what you both say is very true thou.... I think in a year or two, much of these issues will be resolved now that AMG is providing assistance, but I don't think they are there yet...

But damn, I really want this..... Decisions, decisions, decisions.....

BigBoost even if something did happen to it, it's not like you don't have another badass back up ride to tide you over until they fix it lol.

Important things IMO....

1) Go into this informed and with your eyes fully open

2) Don't need and expect ultimate reliability

Satisfy these criteria and wow!!!!!! 2-wheeled nirvana :)

.... (3) you already got covered.... a great dealer thats close ;)

100% agreed & thank you for the assistance.

Thanks-Big Boost

I had a 2006 Burtale 910S for a few a few years. I only let it go to get the 1199.

My concerns list...

1. Dealer support. Don't blame the dealer when things go wrong and it takes forever to get a part or they're unhappy about having to work on it. For a long time MV has been slow on reimbursing a dealer for warranty work done, let alone getting parts to a dealer in a timely manner. I know one of my local dealer (Ducati) had MV for only 3 years before dropping the franchise due to frustration with the company.

2. Referring back to #1. When I owned my 910 I had never felt so 'alone' by a manufacture before. But that has more to do with my area. Closest dealer is 3 hrs away.

3. Fueling. I still read that even today's models have issue with smoothness with on/off transitions. Mine would slam the front end down when just trying modulate the throttle during a wheelie. I swear my nuts are now more oval than round because of it.

LOL... Good point! I am lucky, but I'm on the fence of giving up my HP4!

Thank you for this level of detail..... This very much reflects a lot of the concerns voiced on the MV forum as well.

I believe 1 & 2 are getting better, but I am VERY concerned about point 3. I know the model years '12 & '13 had big issues with fueling and major issues with electronics. So much they actually changed ECU providers and started from scratch.

This is may hold me back, as I don't know about making this type of investment without riding a bike similar to this. I know the fueling on the 3 cylinders is great, not sure on 4 cylinders.

Supposedly this has been fixed, but I am going to talk to the dealer today.
