Hello all,

I'm on the verge of purchasing a new 2012 1199 Panigale and have heard that there is an issue with heat displacement. For those of you that own an 1199 are you experiencing a lot of heat coming up right underneath you? What are some complaints about the 1199? Thank you all in advance for the feedback, next week may be exciting!

Cheers,
Michael

Yes the bike is hot, lot's of heat coming up from the loop in the pipe but it's one of these things.........

Lot's of power creates lot's of heat and on some bikes more then on others but that did not held me back from purchasing one at all.
Since you are in Richmond you have 2 Ducati dealers near you, just take one for a demo ride once and see what you think.

From my perspective the heat is only an issue when riding slowly such as commuting in town. Once out in the open, it bothers me not.

I for one would not use the heat as an excuse not to own this bike, and certainly would make my own mind up. As STC says, go ride one and make your decision.

If there is one thing I would say; remember that until very recently Ducati was a minority manufacture and some quality control compared to a dull rice burner is missing. The experience of owning one, however, for me, more than makes up for the initial foibles. Most of which, if not all, will have been sorted by now, I hope.

lots of previous discussion on this topic so do a little bit of searching to get a better picture; it seems there are lots of opinions on this issue depending on your tolerance, your gear, etc. you definitely won't feel the heat during the winter but it might be a problem in the summer. also there might be solution for the heat issue.

Welcome! Like the others have said above there are tons of threds discussing heat and impressions on the Pani. A lot of great info to check out but remember these posts are people's opinions with facts that differ from person to person.

For me this is my first Duc and I love it! The whole experience of going from Jap bike to Italian twin is not one that I regret at all.

For me the heat issue has not been a problem, once in a great while I've gotten a little toasty. I've done a track day when it was 90F out and rode 200+ miles in 80F+ weather no problem.

To each there own and only you will know in the end if the Pani is right for you...

Ducati supposedly has a fix for the heat issue and rumour has it that there will be a TSB made avail by the end of the year. no details on what exactly the fix is. Buy the bike! this was my 1st Duc also and there are no dissapoints except that my grin is stuck ear-to-ear!

Don't worry about the heat.....minor issue that might come up on a red light in +30°C conditions but as soon as you hit 50 km/h is all but forgotten.

+1 me too!

1199s is my first Ducati. I read everything about it over the spring/summer and was initially turned off by the apparent volume of problems. Of course, its magnified when you read forum reviews and track reviews by the top 1% riders. Truthfully, there's not that many and certainly few serious issues for a first year bike. I actually had a down payment on and was take delivery of an HP4 very shortly, but was finally able to test ride the 1199. That was all it took.

I have the full termi system and yes it gets hot in traffic, but not unbearable like you may hear. Yes, it smokes on start up, but that is minimal now only after about 120 miles on the odo. No leaks. Love this bike and no regrets. Well, one... It's a bitch getting it in December and not being able to ride it because of the weather. So, I agree with everyone else who said to go take a test ride before you decide. It may turn out to not be the bike you want, but at least you'll know.

The following is entirely cliche, but true:

This bike is like being with a supermodel. She can be a pain in the ass at times, but when she gives you that look, you'd forgive her anything.

Yup, thats pretty much it.

I've been fortunate enough to have some pretty exotic machinery come and go from my garage, but NOTHING pleases me like my 1199 Panigale Tricolore.

Even while static, I derive massive amounts of satisfaction and pleasure simply from looking at it :)

Then the riding...... oh my :D

Get a harem. Like that, when the supermodel is throwing a hissy fit, you can go ride something else to make her jealous. She'll come back to you and be grateful

(p.s. this only works with motorcycles. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE REAL WOMEN IN YOUR LIFE lol)

LMAO! So true. I've often maintained that a man needs 4-5 different motorcycles to fulfill all his differing needs.

Maybe someday I'll get there. For now, the 1199 is my sole bike, but it's the best bike for giving me what I want from my ride. It's drop-dead gorgeous, it's smooth and easy to ride, it's comfy(ish), it sound glorious at any RPM, and with a mere flick of the wrist, it goes like a scalded cat.

I have a lot of experience with this issue like a lot of people here

I live in Los Angeles, this summer we had a lot of days where the temperature was way over 100 degrees and and it was close to unbearable when wearing jeans on my way to work. When I ride for fun and more aggressive, I wear leather and the heat was no where as much of an issue

When the temps started drop below 90 outside I didn't see the heat as much of a issue even splitting Lanes on my way to work.

The up map recently seems to have reduced the issue a bit as well

I too heard there was something coming from Ducati NA later this year but haven't heard more.

Lots of power makes lots of heat, we have many bikes so I've learned my lesson to ride a different one when the temps outside pass 100

One last comment, This thing is so much fun to ride, even when your chestnuts are roasting that the heat is a minor annoyance

In stationary traffic the bike does get hot. I had my entire full Termi' system ceramic coated (inside an out) and it does help to bring the heat levels down. Therefore I suggest that you research this approach on this forum as I have not really seen any decent alternatives.
