All my street bikes have been inline 4's. What am I in for going to a twin? The sales guy said lower RPM's and one of the main things I'll have to get use to is low speed riding in parking lots.

They will not be offering their demo 1199 for rides as he said it will sit on the showroom floor. He said I could take one of their 848's out for a while as they also do not have any 1198's for demo.

I've read in a review that the 1199 behaves more like an 848 in the lower RPMs.
So take that for a fang. It's still 140hp and a lot of fun :)

You will not believe the torque even from the 848 down low.

Low speed stuff can be troublesome on a v-twin of any capacity.
It will shudder. Think of what happens if you try to stop a car in 3rd gear... it's that feeling you get just before it stalls.

You can slip the clutch, but the usual solution is to go down a tooth on the front or up 2-4 on the back.

You'll lose some top end, but big deal.
It'll be more rideable around town... and for me, on the smaller tracks we have here, gives you good punch out of the corners.

Get that sorted, and you're just left with that v-twin sound! - now with extra 'fkn bang' :)

Twins aren't happy at RPMs below 5K which makes low speed riding somewhat of a challenge, use your clutch to navigate the parking lot.
The amount of torque at lower RPMs and the powerband will make up for it though.
Take out the 848 and you will get a good feel for riding a twin.
Oh..and be careful about the permanent smile riding a twin will put on your face.

I'm sure. Being without a bike right now I might want to wait until a little closer until I get my 1199 as I might be up there demo'ing the 848 every weekend.

Reviews are saying it's much more forgiving in town over previous Ducs.
